Online**, you can work together or turn a course into a friend race to finish first. Even when playing solo, connecting online lets you see silhouettes of other Mario fans around the world as they embark on their own journeys. See how they approach each course and get their help when you’re in trouble. Find standees left by other players to help recover from falls—or place your own.
Unlock and equip more than 20 badges with various effects. Want some more midair time? Equip the Parachute Cap. Want an extra boost underwater? Dolphin Kick is your best bet. Having trouble perfecting your platforming? Safety Bounce will save you from a fall. Using your badges together with power-ups is the key to saving the Flower Kingdom!

A lot of bad things have happened in 2023, but you know what's been good? Video games! While the games industry has seen a frustrating amount of instability for developers, the actual games they've put out have been incredible. In fact, we'd argue this has been one of the best years for new games in the past decade—maybe ever!
With all that in mind, narrowing down our favorites wasn't easy. Last week, TapTap's editors and other staff members put our heads together and voted on the games we absolutely couldn't forget and felt deserved special honors, even in a year full of amazing releases.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the best 2D Mario game in decades—and it also has dancing piranha plants
Not long after I started Super Mario Bros. Wonder, I was treated to an impromptu musical number. The mountains in the background bounced in time with the music. Piranha plants sang in perfect harmony. Some of them even jumped out of their pipes so that they could shake what their mama gave them.

After nearly forty years of smashing blocks and stomping on Goombas, it feels like Mario’s done everything he could possibly do: He’s piloted an airplane, rode multiple dinosaurs, fought sumo wrestlers, turned himself into a human balloon, and dressed up like everything from a penguin to a cat. But this year, after a long, painful wait, Mario finally returned in his first 2D adventure in more than a decade, and somehow, the series feels more innovative than ever.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder has left me in a world of WONDERS!
You're never too old to enjoy a classic experience, I probably wouldn't have said that earlier this week. However, I finally decided it was time to take up a series of older titles than what I'm used to playing and see where things lead me.
I can't believe how really entertaining these games are, even after more than 20 years! They're as vivid, exciting, and innovative as ever!
