We invited developer Zeyu Yang to sit down and talk about the behind-the-scenes story of Out of Hands. You can follow him on TapTap for more updates 👉 https://www.taptap.io/user/509219295
Out of Hands is a card-based thriller that blends card battles, video collage and psychological horror.
TapTap: What prompted you to start producing Out of Hands?
Developer: Out of Hands started with a game development competition held in October 2021 for 30 days. I was a participant in that competition, and the DEMO version of Out of Hands was made at that time.
TapTap: How long did it take you to create this game?
Developer: The prototype version was completed within 30 days because it was my entry for the competition. The official version, on the other hand, is started from March this year 2022 and is also still under development, and is expected to be able to enter the tuning period in March next year.
TapTap: Is Out of Hands a horror game?
Developer: Out of Hands has some horror features but is not strictly a horror game itself. It will not have Jump Scare, nor is it designed to scare players as its core purpose. The game is more about letting players experience a simple story with strong emotional tones and a visual atmosphere with a sense of psychedelia.
TapTap: The art style of Out of Hands is unique, how did you create this style?
Developer: I started by defining the narrative concept, and then went on to design the mood in the order of character, plot, and structure. The protagonist is an ordinary person who has undergone a mutation. I used the image of hands for the face collage and fully highlighted the protagonist's painful emotions. I chose several images, such as hand, heart and face, which are both functional and symbolic, to form the main character's body.
TapTap: Does the game plot come from real personal experience?
Developer: The content of the plot itself is a dramatic fictional process, and there is no realistic prototype.
TapTap: Whose hand appears in the game?
Developer: Mine. It's definitely easier to photograph my own hand.
TapTap: What percentage of the overall content of the game is playable in the DEMO version of Out of Hands?
Developer: Around 15%, the level mechanics are still being iterated and changed.
TapTap: What platforms does Out of Hands plan to launch on?
Developer: Mainly PC and mobile platforms. In the future, we also hope to release in each console platform, depending on the specific performance of the game after the release.
TapTap: When is Out of Hands expected to be officially released?
Developer: If the development goes well, it should be officially released between March and September next year.
