Hi, I’m the solo dev of Claws of Power, a small card-based lane RTS about cats beating each other up with all kinds of crazy themes. This time I want to show Nuba, the man-eating ogre cat. You can see how he charges in as both tank and damage dealer: his normal swings have a chance to stun enemies, and when they’re low on HP he can do an “awoo” chomp to instantly eat them and heal himself. That chomp has a cooldown, but when it lands it feels really satisfying. There’s a free demo of Claws of Power on Steam if you want to try it. Hey everyone, today I wanna talk about why I decided to make this game — and it all goes back to a year ago. Back then, I was still a hardworking corporate drone chained to my desk, and the highlight of my day was stumbling upon this little game during my slacking-off time — *We Are Warriors*. The art style was absurdly simplistic, like something scribbled in a rough draft, but somehow I got totally hooked! The gameplay was super straightforward: tap to summon troops, overwhelm the enemy with numbers, and unlock the next stage (can’t remember the exact rules now, but basically, you just mindlessly tapped away). Each stage only had three types of units, just with different summoning costs. And the so-called "upgrades" only tweaked how fast those costs increased — honestly, it was all just number inflation, with zero innovation in the core gameplay. But the more I played, the more I wondered: how could such a simple setup keep me so addicted? Then it hit me — what if each unit had its own unique skill, plus a rock-paper-scissors type of counter system? Wouldn't that make the gameplay twice as fun?! And then, why not throw in my ultimate obsession — cats! Imagine chubby little kitties leading an army, some scratching up close, others attacking from a distance… just thinking about it melts my heart! Wasn't this my dream game?! I got so pumped I almost slammed the table and handed in my resignation right then… (Wait, don't get me wrong — it wasn't some impulsive career suicide. Let's just say I conveniently caught the tail end of a layoff wave… so, more like a "passive" career pivot, haha.) So, after a whole year of stumbling through countless setbacks and revising the plan like a million times, it's finally here — *Claws of Power Demo* is out! That's all for today. I’ve been testing a new unit in Claws of Power – a magician gentleman cat with a hat, monocle and a stack of heart cards. He’s a ranged attacker: he throws a heart card to deal damage, and after every attack he does a small random teleport. Sometimes he blinks just out of danger and survives things he really shouldn’t. Sometimes he teleports straight into the enemy line and gets deleted on the spot. Right now I’m still tweaking his range, damage and teleport distance to make him feel “slippery but not stupid”.
