I've played my fair share of JRPG, RPG, and story games, and there have only been a handful that have been difficult to get through, those being Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes, Tales of Eternia and Star Ocean The Last Hope. The fundamental issue is that the translation from Japanese to English was plain atrocious. I'm not talking about basic errors in the dialogue; I'm talking about whole reinterpretations of the meaning into a completely different phrase. It's like if you were asking a question like

If there's one thing I can appreciate in a game, it's a good narrative. In fact, it's probably my favorite thing. I could forgive a lot if the story is tight. Unfortunately, the impressive presentation can’t cover up for a disappointingly shallow tactics experience and a truly atrocious English translation. Due to the poor localization, the Game of Thrones-meets-Cthulhu mythos storyline is nearly impossible to parse, and basic functions of the game go completely unexplained.

It just goes to show how amazing this small team is, as they don't know when to stop in terms of creating high-quality tactical gameplay with not just exciting combat and mechanics, but also Story, Lore, Voice acting, and Charm for every crew member. Whether you prefer their earlier products like Shadow Tactics or you enjoy Sea-Faring Pirate escapades. This game is guaranteed to appeal to you in some manner.
