The gameplay is actually pretty cool. Especially the sand surfing. It just looks fun. The game is a bit of a sleeper and likely went under most people's radar. But it's actually solid. The story is good but a little bit simple. You can honestly piece things together before anything major happens. So I doubt if you'd be too surprised there. But don't let that stop you. The combat and exploration is where it shines. The combat offers a ton of fluidity and options as you discover or find different abilities (active and passive) that can have a subtle or dynamic impact on your combat style.

This desert romp is stiff and janky but still worth a look - Atlas Fallen Quick Review

SHOULD I PLAY ATLAS FALLEN? Play it if you can tolerate a bit of control jank and are up for an old-school open-world adventure in a genuinely stunning desert landscape. Atlas Fallen blends PlayStation 2-era God of War button-mashing combat with open-world exploration and puzzle solving in its own unique way, and while it can feel a bit stiff and wooden sometimes, there’s something special here once you get through the opening few hours.
