L'originale Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- includeva molti elementi caratteristi della serie SaGa come Glimmer e Combo. Ai tempi della sua uscita, fu considerato l'apice della serie.

■Storia
Gli dei crearono l'uomo, che a sua volta creò le storie.
Marda, il creatore primordiale, plasmò la terra di Mardias.
Nelle ere passate, una violenta battaglia scosse quella terra quando Elore, il re degli dei, affrontò tre divinità malvagie: Death, Saruin e Schirach.
Dopo una lunga lotta, Death e Schirach furono intrappolati e ridotti all'impotenza. L'ultima divinità, Saruin, fu intrappolata a sua volta tramite il potere delle Fatestones e il nobile sacrificio dell'eroe Mirsa.
Sono trascorsi 1.000 anni da quello scontro titanico.
Le Fatestones sono sparpagliate per il mondo e le divinità malvage stanno risorgendo.
Otto eroi partono per la loro avventura, come se fossero guidati dalla mano del fato.
Quali storie intrecceranno questi avventurieri nel vasto arazzo di Mardias?

L'amata Schiele partecipa finalmente alle tue avventure ed è possibile reclutare personaggi come Marina, Monica e Flammar.
■Boss migliorati!
Ora diversi boss compaiono in versioni migliorate e molto più potenti! Affronta questi terrificanti avversari con l'accompagnamento di nuovi arrangiamenti della colonna sonora.
■Giocabilità migliorata!
Sono state aggiunte diverse nuove funzionalità, come una modalità veloce, minimappe e l'opzione "New Game +" per giocare nuove partite mantenendo i progressi precedenti, per rendere l'esperienza di gioco ancora più gradevole.

It is one of several SaGa games that have always tried to be unique, often feeling like they're experimenting to create a fun game. The fighting system is one of the game's most intriguing aspects because it incorporates several components, such as durability points for weapons and life points for characters, to make even the most straightforward encounters feel intense. Completing the main mission and minor quests without any framework is a double-edged sword.

The original version of this game dates back to 1992,Square Enix released the fantastic Romancing SaGa on the Super Famicon in Japan. The fourth ‘SaGa’ game, it revolutionized the series with its non-linear structure and innovative mechanics.
It was influential and it is definitely a very different JRPG from what most people are playing today, you can choose one of eight main characters, and as you explore the vast world, your actions and decisions will weave a story that is uniquely yours. It is a must-try for fans of turn-based RPGs, but also for young gamers who only heard this before but never tried.
