It’s once again almost that time: Overmorrow, the scary day will be upon us.
As part of the fam’s traditions, my parents have hauled the entire family to my Nana’s place across the country. Upon arrival, we are first greeted by Nana’s quaint cottage nestled within the heart of an idyllic village.
Much to my delight, it is redolent with the delightful scent of Nana’s crumbly shortbread. 🤤 Since a young age, that was something I’d always look forward to whenever I visit Nana.
Without further conveyance, I immediately grab a plateful of the freshly-baked shortbread and make my way to the lounge. Before long, my cousins are up to some mischief, daring me to complete a horror game—DVloper’s Granny 3.
Sure, I may have the option to customise my game to a more manageable scale, unless you’re a real glutton for punishment. However, I soon find myself in a predicament.
Unbeknownst to just about everyone, DVloper have you shot by Grandad before saddling you with the role of a prisoner in Granny’s cavernous moat.
Waking up in a locked cell, you are to venture into the booby-trapped house and make your escape before the 5-day limit expires (Woe is me!).
Soon, it dawns on me that Granny 3 is reminiscent of Five Nights at Freddy’s. Armed with their weapons, Granny, Grandad, and Slendrina—the absolute epitome of horror—patrols the entire house, making things harder for you.
Of course, that’s not all.
What makes things even more difficult is the lack of a save feature, so you have to ensure that you’re able to search for a hiding spot or even escape the moat in one go without any mishaps. Hence, I found it bloody infuriating whenever any of the three dreadful beings caught me (or rather mutilated me). That’s because I would, once again, find myself back in the locked cell, realising that I had wasted a day away.
Although Granny 3 may not be frightening, it is a game replete with a massively creepy ambience. While the graphics may not earn it any awards, its sound effects are able to add to the atmosphere and make up for the simplistic designs. As they say, no horror game is complete without petrifying sound effects.🎃🎶
That being said, being spotted by the gnarly Granny or Grandad really does indeed spark a dramatic flair in the music. At times, they will even make an utterance that only adds more terror. Upon hearing that deep “I see you” resonating from somewhere, it is more than sufficient to make my or even the bravest gamer’s heart tremble with fear.
However, I must warn you that there won’t be any freshly-baked cookies awaiting you on this visit to Granny’s house. On top of that, I don’t think I can look at Nana the same way ever again! 😣
Now that we are drawing ever closer to All Hallows’ Eve, I can’t think of a better time to dive into this title. So, muster your courage and embark on a heart-stopping escapade here with me!
