Tiny Room Stories: Town Mystery Review—An Aspirant Detective's Neo-Noir Quest for Truth

Having whetted my carnage appetite with Sword Hunter over the weekends, I somehow begin to crave something entirely different.

Rain pelting the window, a glass of Dalmore whiskey in hand, and a pile of unsolved cases—such is the life of a typical gumshoe. The unsolvable crimes that make the gears in your head churn. Inexplicable murders, mysterious disappearances and perplexing riddles. As they say, curiosity kills the cat, but does it really?

With that in mind, it is probably time to put my inner detective to the test as I get to the bottom of it all and unravel the secrets behind the disappearances in Tiny Room Stories: Town Mystery (TRSTM).

Without any hesitation, I dived straight into the world of mystery.

Set in the small town of Redcliff (your hometown), you’ll be playing as a private detective whose father sends a letter demanding your presence at once. Yet, he doesn’t state the reason as to why. Bizarre, innit?🤔

As soon as I stepped foot into Redcliff, it dawned on me that something eerie had occurred as the entire town had no signs of life anywhere. As such, it gave Redcliff an appearance of a ghost town with a sort of Twin Peaks vibe (Cue the music!🎶).

Being the only one in this enigmatic town, the responsibility of uncovering what has transpired, as well as my dad’s vanishing, falls on my shoulders. With that, I begin my search for clues, solve cryptic puzzles and unlock some doors along the way. Still with me? Brilliant!

It’s an intriguing premise that establishes the mechanics for TRSTM. In pursuit of the truth to whatever has occurred in Redcliff, a new distinct chapter begins whenever you venture into a new location. Since the game’s isometric design allows you to view each nook and cranny of the town, you’ll find that everything—every wall, every corridor, every space—rotates in 3D, presenting you with a new set of clues and puzzles.After sitting through TRSTM, I would consider this game to be a stellar mystery game that offers simple gameplay yet a complex take on the mystery genre. Not only that, but each chapter is also pretty challenging, especially when I was given several notably frustrating puzzles. Hopefully, I’m not going bald anytime soon! QAQJust as what you’ll encounter in games, like Cats & Soup and Sword Hunter, you’d be, once again (sigh), hit by ads on numerous occasions, from ending a chapter to needing a hint (if you are unwilling to pay for the season pass, that is). That being said, though, TRSTM is definitely the perfect way to get your thrills without even having to leave the house!
