When news came that Wade had journeyed south in search of the source of the mysterious power, Rhys pursued him relentlessly, determined to prevent him from seizing more forbidden strength. The road south was treacherous, filled with danger, but along the way Rhys endured countless hardships, forged new friendships, and received the covert aid of a mysterious black-armored knight.
With his new companions, he twice crossed the Delnashir Mountains, clashing with both the Cult of the Ascetics and the Imperial Army, witnessing the Empire’s decline from glory to ruin. He roamed nearly the entire Sondas Plain before, at last, confronting Wade once more atop Mount Hela—the peak of the continent.
Yet fate twisted their reunion. The hunter, while chasing the shadow of the demon, had unknowingly strayed, tainted by the demon’s own corruption. In a climactic struggle involving Wade and the Holy See of Essos, Rhys consumed the forbidden power of the See, undergoing his own transformation as an Immersed.
And in an unexpected way, he thwarted Wade’s plan to ascend through “Enlightenment.”
