900 hours, been playing since the game's beta with some breaks here and there.
The core of the game is amazing. It's a very detailed and intricate tank combat simulator, with internal modules that effect and hinder different aspects of the tank you control when it is damaged, while some only add more internal protection for you. i.e. Spall liners, fuel tanks, and other miscellaneous modules just eating spall in general.
What is spall? It's basically the armor of the tank fragmenting internally after being penetrated by a shot. That's just how detailed the damage is.
That's just about where most of the good things end though, because once you've actually dove deeper and have tried the game yourself, you'll realize quickly just how plagued the game is with predatory "micro"-transactions and glitches.
Things I could list on the top of my mind:
God awful matchmaking; If you've barely even got 500+/- games played, you WILL be matched against people with multiple thousands. If you're one of those people with multiple thousands, you WILL be matched against those with only 500+/-.
Pay to skip progress; The game constantly bombards you with Platinum Wolf offers (PW is basically the premium currency of the game, only obtainable through real money) that just offers anyone and everyone a high tier vehicle—or even an entire branch of vehicles instantaneously without any real experience in the game, thus also being a major cause of the game's matchmaking problem.
Events and limited time offer; Yeah, did I ever mention how predatory the game was? Well, yeah. More than 50% of all the tanks added to game are locked behind once-a-year events and holidays and, of course, Platinum Wolf offers. As such, the free tech tree that everyone can access is often left in a drought instead, with barely any new vehicles being added every season. Even more rarely, actually fun vehicles.
Bugs and bug fixing; Yeah... did I also mention how the game is fucking plagued by them? Mhm. So basically, every update comes with it 2 new game breaking bugs. That's 1 update to 2 bugs, yeah? And oh, don't even get your hopes up about them ever getting patched anytime soon. Currently, there's been this bug that's been shitting on everyone for the past 6 months or so—where if you were to reverse while taking fire, anything—and I mean ANYTHING will just go right through your armor. 400mm of RHA? 50 cal'd. 800mm of composite? 50 cal'd.
Ignorant and very possibly braindead Devs; It's Gaijin. They only want your money. They don't care about how the game is. They don't care if it's dying. They will NOT listen to whatever you say unless it directly affects how much they're getting paid. You are their bitch. You enjoy their spit on your face and you pay them with your soul.
Also, naval and aviation campaigns. Don't fucking touch naval. Aviation is bearable, but don't expect your games to last any more than 3 minutes whenever there's a bomber in yours or the enemy's team.
I'll leave it at that for now. Maybe I'll update it again in the hopeful future, assuming I don't finally abandon the snail. Overall, play if you want to play. Just know that the fun... definitely won't last.
