The game is actually a tower defense game, and like most tower defense games, its mechanics are pretty simple. You build towers... in this case ninjas, who will then repel the enemy rushing towards your base.
Undead Ninja feels just like any other tower defense games, except it has a more Sengoku-era Japan feel, as well as gacha mechanics. Players can also upgrade their characters to make them stronger in battle.
The gacha rates aren't that bad, with gacha rates here being higher than most games. After playing Blue Archive and FGO a lot, I found the fact that I can land much rarer characters more easily is a breath of fresh air. As for the upgrading system for characters, it feels like any old RPG.
As for battles, yeah, it's just like any old tower defense game, but much simpler. It could be better, as enemies just come down and attack in a square. No weird twists and turns, which makes tower placement less strategic. I would have wanted more strategy in where to place my ninjas/towers. For the enemies, they're surprisingly varied. There are several types of enemies, with differing toughness and speed.
Overall, the game is not bad. The RPG and gacha mechanics are nice, but the main battle part, the tower defense, feels very lacking and is kinda boring compared to other titles in the genre.
