Caliko Goes Underground Chapter 5

With her legs screaming in pain, Caliko elected to jump through the hole in the wall, taking Polonius with her. It became apparent quite quickly that this was not the safe haven she was hoping it would be! The hole was filled with wooden splinters and sharp vines, and Caliko felt every slash and prick as her jacket, hair and fur were shredded. She and Polonius cleared the wall of pain, only for her to hit her head on an adjacent wall and tumble down another hole in the floor. The world turned into a big blur as Caliko slammed onto a hard stone floor with bone-crunching force.“Grghh...ohHHh looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking…”

When they had reached a sufficiently safe distance from the collapsing tomb, the ghost phased Caliko, Polonius and Egeus back into their physical forms.“Whoa! Mister Ghost, what did you do?” Caliko said, patting her arm to make sure she was in one piece. “A trick I learrrrrrned over the past 600 yearrrrrrss,” the ghost said, “Only once you took the shardddd was I able to apply it to others as wellll.”

It didn’t seem real at first, but as Caliko stood up, her whole body aching, it dawned on her that she was standing before the actual shard of Thanatos’s blade. It was floating in a pillar of light and radiating a mystical noise that filled the room. As Caliko approached it, she could feel the blade’s energy affecting her. The memories of Thanatos during his battle against Morroc from over half a millennium ago flooded her mind, and she was overwhelmed by the emotions of facing off against such unimaginable evil. “It really is from Thanatos’s blade!” Caliko said to Polonius, who was on the verge of a mental breakdown at this point. “Just think, Polony, almost a thousand years of Midgard history came from this!”
