INTRODUCTION:
I know many are often confused about what the various skill effects are and how they interact. I hope to clarify some of that with the small guide as I list each skill effect and how it is classified.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In Infinity Kingdom as much as with any other game the clues as to how things work are found in the descriptions. Often people misread or misunderstand the text, leading to assumptions about how things work without any actual basis for that assumption. One such common assumption is that the Mighty Thunder skill that Peter the Great has dispels shields. It does not. It dispels the Buff effect, not the Shield effect. Lightning counters Earth mainly because of Genghis Kahn and his ability to cause the Wound effect, which cancels the Recovery effect that the Earth team has so much of. So Genghis is a counter to Zenobia and the overall Sustainability of the Earth squad. This also means Genghis is essential against Holy teams with Theodora.
Some skills cannot be dispelled. Himiko's Demon Ambush is one, the shield employed by Charles was another, but now Arash can dispel shield effects. Another interesting effect is Wound which is an effect type unique from the others, it wasn't countered by anything until they released Duel Master which specificly targets the effect. Other skills will have pointless descriptions like Gilgamesh afflicting Judgement or purifying the field with Holy Fire, it's just a damage-dealing effect that has no other purpose.
The point I'm trying to relay is that there are pitfalls in the skill descriptions and one must read them carefully to grasp their function and nature. I am sure there are nuances I'm missing or misunderstanding, but this guide is based on my best assumptions and experience.

A good thing to note is that the Shield effect is actually represented as Healing in the latest in-game reports. It's not actual Healing as it doesn't recover lost troops, it's a damage absorption effect. The shield that Charles provides is unique to the two Earth immortals that have such an effect, the other being Rising Power that Gaius Marius employs.
This shield is different from the shield that Dido employs. This is because her skill description reads that the Frost Armor directly increases the Physical Defense of an immortal, so it isn't a damage mitigation effect, but a buff. This would for example be dispelled by Peter the Great.
Another noteworthy mention is about the difference between giving a buff to a rate, damage or actual substat. So when a skill describes that is inflicts Physical Damage with a Damage Rate it's a direct multiplier to the base Physical Damage (Determined with a formula based on Physical Attack substat under Strength).
Also when you see the preview bonuses for the skill list Direct Damage Rate you'll know it's a one-shot damage effect. But if it lists Continuous Damage it's a DoT effect (Damage over Time).
