Unlike its SciFi counterpart, 40K, the high fantasy portion of Warhammer, Age of Sigmar, doesn't seem to have a good record in video games so far. However, as I tried Warhammer AoS: Soul Arena, I actually had a ton of fun with this Auto-battler.
Players choose their Captain, and even make up their own teams. And while players can use units not from their captain's factions, it would be best to do so to create better synergies between units. For example, your captain is the Celestant Prime, a Stormcast Eternal (which is AOS's equivalent to 40K's Space Marine). While he can field other units from Order factions like Fyreslayers (Fire dwarves) and Seraphon (Lizardmen), he will buff Stormcast Eternal units alot more. And yes, having units from the same faction causes synergy between each other as well.
Upgrading units and planning out where to place them is integral in the game, as well as unit selection. This means that players cannot just spam powerful units and place them anywhere they want, as strategy is involved... much like an actual game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. I actually play AOS on tabletop, and I am actually quite happy that this game turned out to be fun. Overall, it's a great game. But is this Age of Sigmar's "Dawn of War?" Maybe not.

A card battler with cool faction-based Warhammer mechanics | Review - Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge
✨Overview Oh boy, Warhammer is everywhere, from its brute low-tech OG Warhammer and its games like Total War: Warhammer and Vermintide to the more futuristic 40,000 and its recent games like Darktide and Boltgun. The franchise is kicking ass on practically all fronts, beating the likes of big mixed-media IPs like Star Wars and Marvel in pumping out video game content. Now, we are taking a look at Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge.
