[Dev Blog #6] Infinite ‘Loot’ Awaits

[Dev Blog #6] Infinite ‘Loot’ Awaits

5K View2022-01-05
Referring back to our previous dev blogs, we designed Torchlight: Infinite to feature deep strategic character progression and gameplay. Skills, talents, and heroes are only part of that equation - today let’s talk about the fun shinier stuff. The loot.
Legendary Rewards
Nothing quite gives us the same thrill as a bright pillar of orange light and the satisfying “clang!” of an item drop emerging from a defeated mob. As the name suggests, legendary gear should feel well… legendary
TapTap
These items are by no means easy to find. They are extremely rare equipment, oftentimes only rarely dropped by bosses, and in general have better base stats and carry special bonuses. Sometimes these bonuses can even be build defining.
One of these unique legendary items we want to highlight is the Wailing Dungeon Bracers. Referring back to the skill Chromatic Shot, its damage comes from three types of elemental sources - fire, ice, and lightning. Let’s take a look at these legendary bracers’ stats and how it compliments Chromatic Shot
Wailing Dungeon Bracers
+ (50-100)% Gear energy shield
+ (50-100) Energy shield
+1 Elemental spell skill level
+ (30-50)% Elemental damage
+15% Cast speed
-6% Elemental resistance for 3 seconds on fire damage from spell hit
-6% Elemental resistance for 3 seconds on cold damage from spell hit
-6% Elemental resistance for 3 seconds on lightning damage from spell hit
Using Chromatic Shot with the Wailing Dungeon Bracers you’ll be able to activate all three negative elemental resistances with each hit. With a drop like that, how are you not tempted to build Chromatic Shot as your main skill?
Crafted Experiences
When we designed Torchlight: Infinite, we knew we wanted each legendary item drop to feel relentlessly rewarding. Given their extremely rare nature, we still want to give you the freedom and the rewarding experience to pursue your character build even with non-legendary gear.
TapTap
Aside from legendary gear, all ‘normal’ gear will have the ability to craft and affix additional properties to empower your character. “Increase Spell Damage”, “Cast Speed Up”, “Projectile Speed Up”, and more are all examples of potential bonuses you can add to your gear to buff up that Chromatic Shot
Our new crafting system isn’t only just for adding bonuses. Sometimes that perfect item already has the perfect bonus… but just not the perfect stats. We’ve (annoyingly) ran into this situation many times before in previous ARPG experiences so we’ve also given you the ability to reroll stat bonuses.
We designed Torchlight: Infinite to offer multiple and rewarding paths for your character builds, loot and gear is no exception. Just try not to be too attached to a build if that special legendary comes your way!

Greetings to all hunters of Torchlight. Although we have already announced the trailers for the new season, this does not mean the end of the "Cube of Rapacity" season. This season, we have received a lot of attention and love from many hunters, as well as many suggestions, the most important of which is about the "loot experience." For this reason, we have specially invited everyone to fill out questionnaires and provide feedback in the game.

[Dev Blog #2] Your Skills, Your Creation
As we mentioned in the first dev blog, open-ended hero building is core to the Torchlight: Infinite gameplay in encouraging player creativity. We have a series of dev blogs in the coming months to illustrate everything that goes into this process. In this dev blog, let’s take a close look at the game’s skill system.  From Great to Greater In Torchlight II, each of the three class-specific skill trees consists of 11 skills - eight active and three passive. In this system, players are able to create a number of different builds as they progressively allocate more points to their skills and infuse them with new and more powerful gears.

EDIT 1: The fact that I can die to a boss' skill AFTER I killed them, watch legendary loot drop, get booted from the dungeon, and then have no way to recover dropped gear, is enough for me to come here. To be clear, the end game dungeon bosses can be cleared ONCE per level, with exclusive rewards dropping each level. So, now that I have died twice after killing a boss and lost exclusive gear drops, I hope I can prevent at least one other player from experiencing that. In the grand scheme of how looting and the auction house works, it's not REALLY a big deal. However, there should still be a system implemented to prevent players from losing legendary drops.
