So.. My week of beta test ends today, that means it's my time to write my review before others start to play with it. π
Honest rating would be 4,7 stars..... if it was only about MY expectations.
If You are one of those who just got a invite for a beta or You'd read this when the final release is available, then first click the download button, and then read my review further while the game is getting on your mobile.
The 0.3 star from the full from me is because I was expecting a kind of port of the PC version. So, I miss the character customisation, and the feature, that the equipments change the look of the character. And I miss the engineer character, the old guy with monocle-, mustache and a big hammer. π
So, it's not a port of the PC version. It's a Torchlight for mobile devices. And as a standalone mobile game, it's one of the best ones! Mainly for those, who leke the Diablo games, but are looking for a funnier-, less grotesk and less bloody game in that genre. π
The characters are cartoony, cool, and are created in good quality. The overall design of the game is console quality made.
There are four characters to play. Berserker, Divineshot, Frostfire and a Spacetime Witness.
The Berserker is the warrior-, barbarian-, paladin-, tank type hero. Big as hell, and can use swords-, shields-, hammers-, axes. And, whatever You find on the field, but the mentioned ones will fit him mainly. Untill, You switch his personality in the middle of the game, that You can wih any of the heroes. π So, You can have the warrior as a mage, or your Gunman as the assassin with claws. π
To be honest, this was the hero type I played the less. It's a warrior.
The second hero is the Divineshot. That's the gunman. Or archer. My favorite type usually in RPGs. I wasn't disappointed about him. Dual postols, or a rifle. Can use a cannon too. But, the crossbows and bows had the best stats in the lower levels. This is also a common hero type in RPGs.
The third one is the Frostfire. The name tells it all. That's the mage. But, in a cyberpunk half human-, half metal body of a girl. I burnt the whole map with fire magic with this hero. π€£ It uses one and two handed magic wands (or anything else if You prefer it to be a warrior-, or gunman-, or whatever You think of.) and high damage magic. Frost-, lightning-, fire.. For beginners I recommend this hero to start with. The equipment's stats need to be kept before your eyes to fit the magic type You use, but those things are easy to decide which fits the character the most.
To move the character and use skills/fight is really easy to get used to. And the tutorial is also easy to understand. A six year old can play it without any issues. If You get stuck just click the quest, and it shows the right path to go there.
Aaaaand, now back to the last and most interesting (and honestly the one with the most annoying voice.. π) is the Spacetime Witness. That's the.. a engineerdarkwizardwhatever. π€£ It's using wands like the Frostfire, but have a weird skill that is making it something different. A holograph of the character appears, and fights next to him all the way 'till the end of the map. And, that spacetime copy of the character can became stronger than your hero itself. Playing with him I felt that he is too strong to the game. There were map bosses I couldn't even check how they look like as they were killed in less than five seconds. If You don't really want to play, rather just run trough the whole game in a speedrun, then I recommend this character. I foind it boring, that I just go on the map and boom-boom-boom and it's empty.. Sometimes it's funnier if You have to escape a bit from the enemies, and they are a challenge in the game. π The devs told me, it may be changed in the final release.
Leveling up the characters is easy. The skills are easy to decide which to choose if You know what type of character You want to make. Paladin or swordsmen. Archer or gunman. Fire mage or lightning wizard. The spacetime witness is a different one. You put in its hand whatever You find and it's fine with that. π€£
The companion system is totally different from the PC version. You can make a pact with three of them and they give You different stat points. I choosed dps and luck. π Got a few orange stuffs. π
The bag fills up fast, but the items can be sold to a trader in the hideouts. Or, they can be pit into a inventory chest (looks like a downtown postbox) that is shared between all your heroes. Yupp, You can play with several characters. I don't know how many slots will be available in the final version, but, I played with six heroes. In the inventory box 20 pages can be bought. They got filled up with my purple and orange stuffs while I leveled up three heroes almost to lvl40. It's recommended to save the good stuffs You get for other hero types and give it to them trough the box, as the drops are totally random. I got oranges always for other hero types.
About the storyline and the maps. Not too much to say if You played with the PC version. They are similar. There's a traitor cultist branch here too, and various monsters. Dvarwes in a mine, and mechanics with their robotic army in underground factory like maps.
The maps are far brighter than in Diablo. They are vivid-, light and colorful, like in the PC versions. That's one of the pros of this mobile version. I can see the characters I kill, and the enviroment I walk in. Not a dark something with whatevers I can't recognise but I have to kill... Everything is visible. We can enjoy the characters and plants the designers were working with for months.
Right now there aren't too many outfits in the shop to customise your character, but devs said it will be changed in the future. The shop where you can spend igc bought for real money is for cosmetics right now. It's not a pay to win game! You won't get better in the game with money. You have to play and collect stuffs to get better equipments. π
Honestly.. I hung up playing PUBG MOBILE, and PUBG NEW STATE while my beta testing lasted. And I play PUBG from the beginning for 4-6 hours a day. So, that's something I don't usually leave for another game.
I highly recommend it as a mobile game in the Torchlight world! π
Thank You! About Youga and his voice. It would be more acceptable if he'd have more things to say, and not only that few sentences over and over. I'd like to hear more things from him about comparing this world or monsters to the past one, or things like "Time do change, but the enemies are always on the looser side.." or, to talk about anything but his ego. π A idea: Items in the inventory chest should have an option to be sorted by level, and it would be amazing if the one in the chest could be compared by stats with the ones equipped. It took me a lots of time to check each and every one for their level, and put them back to the bag, and then cgeck them one by one to compare them with the equipped ones. The chest is full of purple-, pink and orange items (all 20 pages) and it's a pain in the butt to figure out which one is useless, and which one to keep.

We really appreciate the detailed and in-depth feedback, thank you so much for taking the time! Our team is really eager for everyone to take a look at Torchlight infinite on PC as well! Itβs already in development and weβll be having another beta once we have some more polished graphics. We'll be sure to share it with you as soon as it's ready! We loved your in-depth look into our four heroes. We designed each hero to have their own personalities, unique characteristics, and stories. As you mentioned, Youga is indeed super talkative and somewhat annoying at times. But it is also understandable as he has be alone for over 200 years and just needs someone to talk to! We're also really glad you liked our art style. Our team spent a lot of time trying different ideas before we settled on this bright and cartoony look. It felt like the perfect addition to the ARPG genre that welcomed younger and older players alike. As the game is still in its closed beta, we know there's still a lot to work on. Thank you again for the support and giving the confidence to push for. Looking forward to relighting the torch!
