Grill Masters Review — Ban the Burgers and Relish in a Subpar BBQ Game

Delving deep into the night on one of my rare occasions to sneak in an all-night gaming binge, I can't help but recall all those good ol' times I can immerse myself in video games whenever I please.

But now, gone were those days when my mates and I hung out somewhere and had an impromptu gaming session on a PlayStation, or even the days when we disregarded our tests and dabbled in a game (or two) of Dota 2. Sigh, those were the days.

As dawn breaks, I can feel my consciousness ebbing away as I pull myself away from the breathtaking adventure in Horizon Forbidden West. At this juncture, I currently could not even drag my sluggish body from the sofa that I've been sitting on through the entire night.

There's only one way to survive whenever that occurs—play video games.

As luck would have it, I've stumbled upon an indie game that has me feeling peckish. Grill Masters is an idle business management game that hits the sweet spot of a casual approach and quirkiness to make for a solid stress reliever.

Yet, if you put some thought into it, the game still feels somewhat lacking if you compare it with a similar game, like Animal Restaurant.

Anyway, Grill Masters assigns you to run a barbecue store. There, you'll be working your way to growing your minuscule food empire for people from all walks of life.

As I progress through the game, waves of familiarity wash over me as Grill Masters depicts a familiar sight I've seen during my vacation to China. Since there's not much to do besides enhancing the restaurant, wouldn't you agree with me that the game would have been polished to ensure us a good time?

Well, not all that much, it seems.

In a certain sense, I think what contributes to the downside of Grill Masters is the game's dependence on ads. What this means is that you will have to sit through an ad before serving unique guests and getting your hands on in-game currencies. Thankfully, I found the durations to be pretty short, so it offers me a sort of break time to do something else. It's an excellent option for anyone who loves to chill and mess around with your phone while chatting with your mate, IMO.
