I’ve been a fan of Life is Strange for years. But seeing the release of mobile, I had to check the game out. Well, turns out, the game is pretty impressive for a mobile version of the original Life is Strange series. Having played this game at its release, Life is Strange mobile took me on a nostalgic ride, giving me the same experience that got me hooked years ago.
The iconic episodic-adventure game is just as popular on mobile as it was on computers and consoles. Well, years after the PC and console release, Square Enix studio decided that the game needed a mobile version for iOS and Android.
Life is Strange has already made its reputation as one of the best adventure games and with Telltale Studios behind the work, things get spicier. It’s been a while since Life is Strange was launched on mobile but it’s still as exciting as it was. So, was the game worth it? Here’s my opinion on it.
Storyline 10/10
Gameplay 9/10
Graphics 7/10
Storyline. 10/10
Life is Strange follows the story of Max, a girl who discovers that she has the power to rewind time and replay various moments in her life. It was her 18th birthday when she discovered her power and the story progresses in a town called Arcadia Bay, Oregon, where Max goes to attend Blackwell Academy for her photographic classes. ‘
But things aren’t as smooth as Max got to reunite with her childhood best friend named Chloe Price and they both decided to explore Max’s supernatural time-rewinding powers and the secrets behind them. Living in a strange world, Max has to solve a handful of mysteries while trying to find secrets behind her powers.
Storywise, Life is Strange is exquisite as it portrays the action-adventure experience in such a beautiful way. The storyline can’t be better and in my opinion, it deserves a 10 out of 10 scores for the same reason.
The game revolves around Max’s journal and her photo collection. This is where you find the next objective and the feature allowed me to follow the storyline in a flow, providing me with all the information I needed.
Gameplay 9/10
When we talk about Life is Strange’s gameplay, you're in for one hell of a ride. You’re going to experience 5 episodes full of supernatural mysteries and each episode is about one to two hours long. I didn’t expect a lot of timelines but it is what it is. Following Telltale's style, Life is Strange plays like an episode where you’ll control Max while experiencing what happens next.
There are a total of three controlling options that are on-screen but I tried pairing it up with a Bluetooth controller. Well, that’s the good news. The controls are designed in a way where players can easily experience the game’s beautiful environment and not get tangled in figuring out the controls.
Life is Strange on mobile isn’t that demanding a game. You’ll need at least 2GB of RAM to flawlessly play the game and nowadays, most phones are coming with enough RAM to play Life is Strange. With that aside, let’s talk about the graphics.
Life is Strange is all about exploring the environment, having fun while discovering other characters, and jotting down clues to push yourself to your goal. The game is designed in a way where Max has to decide options that’ll affect the story in a multi-directional way. It can go your way or it can go against you.
It’s all on you to decide. What I loved about Life is Strange’s story was her ability to peek into the future. That way, I could predict the outcome of each action, a decision I was about to make. I could easily gain valuable insights and formulate my decision based on the clues I had.
I was able to pretty easily undo the mistakes that Imade in Life is Strange, answer difficult questions in a well-sorted manner, and that’s where the real intensity is.
Graphics. 7/10
Talking about the visual side, the game comes with a hazy and glowy effect that goes perfectly with the nature of the gameplay. On the other hand, if we compare the mobile version of Life is Strange with the PC version, it’s no competition. The biggest downgrade you’re going to experience will be in the light and shadow FX department.
Well, surprisingly enough, no custom graphics only ruin the experience as you don’t have much of a room to customize graphics based on your liking. However, the game is still less buggy compared to its time of release and that’s a step up.
Comparison with Steam Version
Honestly, being a mobile game, there’s something I’d like to clarify. For a mobile game, Life is Strange is beautiful and stunning for the most part Sure, there might be some minor hiccups but that’s it.
Comparing it to the Steam version is a no-brainer as both games were built for different platforms. But even if we were to compare, the graphics look really good on both PC and Mobile. It all comes down to the screen size but if you’re into mobile gaming, you’ll absolutely have no complaints coming as you’ll be so engulfed in the actual storyline.
The game runs fast and smooth, it has an iconic episodic adventure on mobile just like the PC version, but the controls on PC are definitely superior compared to the mobile version of Life is Strange.
Final Verdict
Total Score: 26/30
Life is Strange is the type of game that plays with your emotions. Life is Stange pushed me to make various decisions and sometimes, I became so impulsive that I ruined the whole play. The way Life is Strange delivers its exquisite storyline with beautiful music and killer design is just unreal.
The whole cinematic type of gameplay kept me hooked for hours and only improved as I progressed. You can download Life is Strange on both Android and iOS. The first episode is totally free but if you want to play the next 4 episodes, you’ll have to buy them within the game application. I decided to get the season pass for 8.99$ as it is the best deal.
Isn't this a premium game? Don't you have to buy the chapters after the first one??
