Ronin: The Last Samurai is a masterpiece with flaws. When I first started the game, I thought it was a hardcore genre, but the game is a mid-core genre, but it is a game that shows the characteristics of a simple samurai game in various parts.
Ronin: Last Samurai is a roguelike samurai action game. Players can open a new stage by confronting the boss every 5 levels. In addition, the game coins you get from the game generate resources that are used to upgrade your equipment. Equipment has different rarities and can be upgraded to increase base stats.
Special artwork
This game is visually stunning. The art style reminiscent of traditional Japanese painting and monotonous colors are used to achieve maximum effect. (red, black, white). Character models are unique and varied. Enemies are immediately recognized, allowing players to prioritize specific objectives to ensure success. Each boss brings beautiful, artistic graphics to the design. Also, it is a game that shows the characteristics of each boss quite well.
Combat system
Combat is very reminiscent of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Players face off against enemies by blocking or attacking. Blocking mitigates all damage, but increases the player's stance meter. At full stance, the player staggers and is exposed to enemy attacks for a few seconds.
Perfectly timed blocks block enemy attacks. This mitigates all damage and increases the enemy's stance bar instead. Enemies also have heavy attacks that cannot be intercepted, marked with a red kanji symbol when reeling in. When counterattacking with an attack, the player inflicts heavy damage and heavily fills the enemy's stance meter. This balance of parry, attack and counter makes for amazing gameplay.
As an indie game developer, I am very surprised at the ability to show this quality.
In addition to the simple art style, the game shows excellent story and gameplay enough to be called "minimal sekiro version". If you are a fan of action games, this is a game that I would definitely recommend.
