For a game of the Torchlight franchise,
Torchlight infinite, as the newest title in the series, offers an surprisingly high amount of complexity &game depth, and that's a good thing.
especially after the absolutely disappointing &underwhelming Torchlight 3,
I lost all interest & hope for this franchise back then.
And then came Torchlight Infinite, and it lit up the 'spark' again,so to speak.[...]
It does almost everything better than its 'predecessor' TL3,
+ be it character & skill customization,
+ it's progression systems,
+cutscenes, or several technical aspects such as
+ server stability,
+ loading times etc.
when I said, Torchlight Infinite does almost all things better than TL3,
I had only 2 or 3 major points in mind,
that could ruin the otherwise very positive experience in the long run :
- in Torchlight Infinite, there is no controller support yet.
playing mobile games without controller can be very uncomfortable and painful at times, causing a lot of stress to arms, eyes, and neck. being able to use a controller and position the phone somewhere else is almost a must for me.
- the monetarization model: just like Diablo Immortal, it's 'free2play'
that's a good & bad thing at the same time, which means there's a high chance you'll get to a point where progression is that much slowed down artifically, it makes you either give in and start spending (loads of) real cash buying whatever they offer in store that's not 'cosmetical', or quit the game.
- unfortunately, there is no PC version of Torchlight Immortal (yet)
(fortunately It has already been announced that it' coming, and I hope way sooner than later)
the reasons why I even prefer Torchlight Infinite,
over Diablo Immortal right now?
+ that would be the newer & fresher character classes and skills in Torchlight: Infinite,
+ and the chance/opportunity for the Team behind Torchlight Infinite to still make things better than Diablo: Immortal regarding the weighting of "f2p / p2w / p2p" ascpects in the cash shop, prior to Torchlight: Infinite's release
- since the "p2p/p2w" situation might already be too bad & messed up in Diablo:Immortal right now;
- which btw also only features the same old characters from D3. not one single new char class in D:Immortal, thats's sad & boring,
Let's see how both games evolve from now on, and what different approach and directions they will both take.
both Torchlight Infinite & Diablo Immortal are the best hack & slash ARPGs you might have ever seen on mobile so far,
yes, there are a lot of "pros" & "cons" that speak for or against one of the two; some of them are obvious and noticeable right from the start, eg. art style, char classes, etc..
some of them I just haven't had the chance to evaluate yet (eg. I haven't made it to 'endgame' yet in neither of them)
for the time being and since CBT2 is going to end soon on 18.June '22 unfortunately, I'm going to stick with Torchlight Infinite for the time that's left.
See you & Good Luck!
Wonderful feedback and we are lucky to learn your options! we are actually working real hard and fast on the muti-platform versions, and the PC version will be the first one to release soon! :D We are expecting a rush to the PC version when it enters beta (definitely this year). For microtransactions, we are definitely staying free to play that is for sure! All monetization won't be affecting the main quest of the game and progressions.
