A glorious automated mess

A glorious automated mess

Fair warning to anyone downloading this. It's 2gb download from store, then 3gb in-game download.
Ni no kuni is... A mess. Everything is automatic. Questing, fighting, collecting. You just might tap occasionally now and then. Trying to figure out how to turn off the automation is a painful process and there's no indication in game as to where that option might be, took me over an hour to figure out that you have to tap the quest in order to deactivate the automatic play, but controlling manually wasn't that satisfying either. There's no value in game play. You go from point A to B fight, finish quest, rinse, repeat. (yes, all automatic)
There are no xp nor gear drops from monsters. Xp only comes from quests. Gear comes from crafting and you need to grind for materials.  Chances for good gear are pretty low. You can hit level 30 and you'd still have basic 1 star gear unless you get some good luck while crafting batches of gear and weapons.
It's a gecha game. Everything is locked behind chest, pay walls and summon tickets. The difficulty spikes after level 30, and leveling up becomes a chore and progress slows down a lot. Unless you spend a hefty sum, you're not progressing fast enough, or at all, cuz you can very much get soft locked in a few quests cuz they require certain type of weapons. If you don't have it, you're losing.
Animation and voice acting and cutscenes are amazing. Otherwise, game doesn't really have much merit to it unless you're a really big spender.
