Welcome to the one and only Rocket League: Sideswipe! Becoming a major sensation among the gaming world, Rocket League: Sideswipe is the mobile version of the PC release which featured back in 2015 on the Steam store page. Players can expect a crazy time with this title which features an extensive array of activities. Included into the mix with, Training Modes, Ranked and Casual Modes, and Car Customization. If I had to describe how good of a mobile adaptation this is, it would be an immediate 5/5 due to just how groundbreaking it was having released back in November 2021.
Sideswipe has been a passion of mine ever since it first released after the Alpha phase, having sunk in a total of 100 hours so far. While that may not be much, it can be said that the game's true goal is to allow players to improve into becoming a Grand Champion. Meaning that players will have mastered the game, and upon reaching this summit, will continue to show just how great of a title this is.
While players put in countless hours, Psyonix has provided players with a means of being rewarded for their time. This comes in the form of a Rocket Pass, much like other games having released a battle pass, Sideswipe aims to improve upon that by giving custom car skins and even import rarity items for Free. Yep, you read that right, players can claim 50 levels of free rewards which do not fail to impress every single season.
Being released on a seasonal rotation, players can expect to earn plenty of rewards to customize their cars with in the long run. With that in mind however, players can expect to sometimes not enjoy specific selections based on their personal preference when it comes to items. This is to be expected, but Psyonix is constantly improving their game with consistent updates on rotation, and new modes or maps to complement their schedule.
Sideswipe features an extensive matching system, along with multiple queues akin to the PC version of Rocket League. Modes included are, Ranked Duels, Ranked Doubles, Casual Duels, Casual Doubles, and with Ranked + Casual both having the limited-time mode featured as well. Players can rest assured that Psyonix has it covered when it comes to how players are feeling or what they might not want to play at a specific moment.
With that said, Sideswipe also features a Ranked Leaderboard. Allowing for the top players to battle it out to see who can become #1 in the world of Sideswipe with each season that is released. Players are also able to queue into more than one game mode at a time, allowing for the matching system to put you into whichever party it can find first out of the options selected.
Sideswipe players can also be expected to earn limited-time season rewards based on their placing at the end of a season. Ranging from Bronze, all the way to Grand Champion, the game aims to provide players with a sense of accomplishment based on their performances and time spent. It takes a lot more than just luck to reach the top and it can be expected to spend potentially hundreds of hours during each season in order to reach that coveted Grand Champion rank.
With the ranked rewards changing after every season, players can expect every season to most likely feature at least one new unique item. Having never seen the light of day before, while also featuring items which might be a blast from the past for seasoned Rocket League veterans. This is one area of expertise with which Psyonix gives its players something to show off proudly.
Whilst featuring season ranked rewards, Sideswipe also offers Rocket League players a chance to purchase missed items in the past. This is an item shop which refreshes on a weekly basis, featuring items that are Painted or even hard to come by through the box opening system. One of the most useful features by far seeing as users can get practically any item for free, by just spending their hard-earned free currency to buy their desired dream item that is posted in the shop.
This also comes with its downsides, due to having some weeks when players might not want any of the items on display at all. While being a necessary evil, I am sure that the item shop does not disappoint in any regards to being an entirely new feature to experience. Allowing users the chance to browse selections they might not have known existed prior to checking out the item shop.
With all of these points aside, the also has a massive Garage and Profile system, allowing users to change the looks of their cars and the way their profile looks. Players can choose from specific categories of what they would like to change, such as, Wheels, Boost, Paint, and even their Hats. Sideswipe allows its users the chance to fully customize their persona as well as their title and profile background to be viewed inside of matches.
This is one of the most important features, since without it players would be fuming at the chance to show off their acquired items from the item shop and rocket pass. Psyonix has thought of almost everything a Rocket League player would need when playing their mobile titles and does not disappoint when it comes to letting players feel a sense of excitement.
To end off this soaring review, Sideswipe has also featured collaborations with other companies in order to bring rare items into the game for a limited time frame. Allowing players the chance to see some of their favorite items from other titles be added into the game by the Psyonix development team. I personally have enjoyed every event that come out so far and will continue to do so with every collaboration in the future.
I foresee Rocket League: Sideswipe turning into a major contender come next year in 2023. With many additions to the Psyonix team being brought into the mix, as well as new ideas coming to their attention from renowned players across the world.
