Who Needs Vampire Survivors? (Long Review)

Who Needs Vampire Survivors? (Long Review)

2K View2022-07-02
So, there have been many recent releases on mobile - and other platforms for that matter - that have tried capitalizing on the successes of games like Vampire Survivor and it's predecessor Crimsonland. This has led to the emergence of a highly addictive "new" genre tentatively known  as "Reverse Bullet Hell", where, as is implied by the name, instead of the players dodging a screen engulfed in spheres of death, they themselves are walking powerhouses of projectile spewing carnage,  while being mobbed by endless hordes of varying enemies.
Enter PIXEL MAGE SURVIVAL! With God-like powers that evolve, fluid and responsive touch controls, faster gameplay than it's competitors, excellent graphics and sounds for the genre, ads that are neither necessary or pointless, and many goodies to unlock and upgrades to be had, PMS (you know I HAD to) is top of it's class. You can't tell that the developer takes great pains to keep their game balanced; you nearly always taste the might of divinity, but  underworld forces match in-kind.
If you are a fan of wave-modes, top-down shooters, and/or games without ANY form of in-app purchases (as of 7/1/22) than PMS is for YOU. Don't waste your time with chibi wizards with slow animations and movement, get PMS now! You  don't even have to wait a month between runs 😂

Six mobile games to play when you can’t stop thinking about Vampire Survivors
Written by @Kef If you’ve been around the gaming parts of the internet over the last six months or so, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve heard the growing buzz about a game called Vampire Survivors. From looking at it, you might not be able to tell what the buzz is about. It’s got old-school pixel graphics with NES Castlevania vibes, and it was made by a single developer in just a year and with less than $1,500 spent on assets. So what’s the big deal?

Witness the Birth of a Genre - Magic Survival Review
Of the regular cycle of breakout Steam hits this past year, there’s one that’s really stood the test of time for me: Vampire Survivors. This old-school pixel graphics title came out in late 2021 to virtually no fanfare, but it has steadily picked up more and more interest to the point where it has now sold millions of copies and is being heralded as the first breakout star of a new genre, the “horde game.”

Vampire Survivors Review
The original “endless wave survival” style game was finally ported over to mobile… and it is insanely addicting! There was a trend going on in the app store where mobile titles (such as Survivor!.io, Wizard Hero, etc.) were trying to copy what Vampire Survivors had done on Steam. I don't think any game could’ve come close to how addicting Vampire Survivors is. For starters, the pixelated medieval art style gives a very nostalgic gaming experience. The art style isn’t the only thing that separates this game from others in it’s genre. There many different characters to unlock and choose from, all with different stats and starting weapons.
