Government of India has banned Krafton's Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). Alphabet Inc's Google and Apple have removed the Krafton game on July 28, 2022, citing an Indian government order. The incident comes a year after the country banned the popular game PUBG.
According to a Reuters report, the government has banned the royale battle-ground format game, using a section of the IT law to ban Chinese apps from 2020 over national security and data sharing concerns, a source told Reuters.
Under a similar provision of IT laws, the Indian government has banned more than 100 Chinese apps from 2020, including Chinese publisher Tencent Games' PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG).
BGMI is the Indian version of Tencent's PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) which recently crossed over 100 million registered users in India. The Crafton game was relaunched in India as BGMI, a year ago due to huge demand from gamers.
