If only I could go home early is a point-and-click puzzle game created by indie developer wushi game. We talked to the developer recently to find out what inspired them to make a game where the protagonist's wife loves playing dead.
TapTap: What prompted you to start making the game If only I could go home early?
Developer: The story happened at ordinary noon. I was eating my bento while watching the video site. I saw the fan-made video of When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to be Dead.
I think it would be a pity if I didn't make a game out of this title! And the most coincidental thing was that I could write code and was in the very early stages of a very boring game project.
So I shouted to the sky, “I'm not doing that! I want to do this!”
TapTap: If only I could go home early looks like a simple puzzle game, but the story behind it has great insight. Where did you get the inspiration to create the game's plot and story?
Developer: I was inspired by my friends. Usually, we don't discuss things like love when we talk together. Because I started making this game, they had to rack their brains to share their love story with me.
It may be a little weird, but if you see two guys with messy hair wearing glasses discussing love in a cafe somewhere down the road one day, don't doubt that one of them could be me.
Maybe it's overrated that the story has great insight. I think the story in the game may be more subtle, and these subtleties are something that we all know but don't want to feel and express.
TapTap: Is this game made by just two of you? Does anyone else work on it?
Developer: Haha, I have a really awesome friend who made the music for this game! All the sound effects and music for this game came from his keyboard.
Thank goodness for the art of music in the world!
TapTap: Are there any special level designs or ideas that you were prepared to make, but didn't end up doing?
Developer: Of course, there were! In the early stages of every game, all kinds of strange brainstorming would be born.
For example, at the very beginning, I was very worried that the story was not enough to support the content of the game and even thought about adding levels to describe their past lives of love.
Imagine an ancient Chinese husband coming home at night, and he could be a constable!
TapTap: Developers are also players. Which level or episode of this game do you like the most?
Developer: My favorite part is the level for Valentine's Day! After finishing this level, I also received flowers on Valentine's Day from a pretty cute girl.
TapTap: Does the cute cat that appears in the game come from the real world?
Developer: When I was creating this game, my roommate had a cat. He didn't come back often, so this cat spent more time with me. Before this, I didn't have very special feelings about cats.
I woke up from sleep one day that winter and felt something rubbing against my leg. It was this cat, he was so cold so he had to come near me for warmth!
Suddenly I was touched by this little fellow, so I slept with him all night.
TapTap: Are you full-time game producers? Or do you all make games together in your spare time?
Developer: We are the people who make a living from game development and production. The production of a game is so physically and mentally demanding that it can't be done in our spare time.
And my spare time is reserved for lovers, friends and delicious food.
TapTap: How successful do you think this game is? Did it reach the expectations you had for it?
Developer: It's up to the players. Before this game launched, I had no idea how many people would play it, and I was guessing maybe about 10,000.
The game has actually sold 550,000 copies in China! Now I want to continue to bring this game to more players worldwide through TapTap, and I hope they love it!
TapTap: Do you plan to release additional levels or new game works in the future?
Developer: Of course, as mentioned above, we are always making games. We also keep trying to make more interesting games.
Whenever I play a really good game, I think, “Damn, this game developer is good!”
"How come I didn't make something that's so fun."
“I must create a more awesome and fun game!“
As for whether there will be additional levels, I can't say. But I certainly will not add levels to this game, that would destroy the integrity of the story.
If I still make point-and-click puzzle games, it's probably more content under this topic.
first time here thought I would try it out
