Do not play this non-game users!
To be honest, when I first found this game on TapTap, I thought this was some kind of fake game randomly grabbed from the Internet, cause you know, look at the plain icon. And I had some vague memory of playing a PC version with a similar name. I later spent 25 minutes playing through the little game twice which brought back my enjoyable memory of playing the full version (There is no game: Wrong dimension, available for mobile as well), and realized this Jam Edition is actually the very prototype where the idea was born. Like I’ve said before, I have this weird obsession with meta games (ICYMI, check out my last review on Dentures and Demons). Unlike many other meta games that usually contain some meta elements or break the fourth wall from time to time, for There is no game, the fourth wall is totally broken starting from the second you tap into this game and start a conversation as the game player — sorry, according to the voice-over, this is not a game at all. The game is short, but keeps a great balance between activating your brain cells and making sure you make it to the end. The husky voice-over which insists that you are not playing a game will always throw you a hint when you seem to get stuck. (And trust me it’s really difficult not to fall in love with this sexy voice once you’ve heard it. Really addictive.)
Compared to the actual gameplay, the idea is the thing that really matters in this game, especially considering its origin as a game jam winner. I would recommend this game to people who would like to try something different, though it’s only a prelude to the later full version. It would be great if this non-game could attract your attention and drag you into its expanded sequel.
