Marvel Snap is essentially a card game focusing on marvel heroes and villains. But instead of your standard attack and defend and reduce your opponent health down to zero, marvel snap introduces a shake up to the card game world. Every Deck consists of 12 cards with a 6 turn match. Your goal is essentially to utilize your deck and beat your opponent 2 out of 3 areas by the time of your 6th turn.
Bring your 12-card deck to the field to go against your opponent, Like other card battlers, each card has an energy cost (from one to six) and a power level (but no health – these cards do not fight each other). On turn one, you have one energy, On turn two, you have two, all the way up to six at turn six and now after some time I believe 10 matches or so will put you in a rank to go against actual players. The battlefield will look weird but you'll get the hang of it very soon as every match will start you with 3 varying locations based in the marvel world with varying effects to your battles and cards.
This is the exact point where things truly get interesting because it's very random like it's literally near impossible to guess what the locations and the abilities for the locations will have so it's adapting to the current situation at hand. Depending on the scenario, the locations will be revealed in turns starting from turn one to turn 3 and The overlying objective for each location is to have the highest attack power by the 6th final turn and you need to win at least 2 locations out of the 3 now if you win all 3 locations then you're just mega-brain since playing this game feels like 5D chess. Now this may sound super simple but after the 10+ matches ive come across its actually not a easy feat to just win, from the many locations either working in your favor or not or completely being its own beast it will prove a problem if your deck isn't well equipped to handle adapting like some locations will forbid you from using a specific type of cards to it actually helping your hand.
There's so much randomness inside of these battles that every battle is essentially a fight for survival and you really have to out think the board and adapt to what your opponent uses. Upgrading your cards is fairly simple since Your first upgrade breaks the card out of its frame, and then eventually your card can become 3D, or animated, or other cool features to improve its look. Now I want to cover the pay to win part of the game and guess what it really isn't even pay to win since all your really paying for is the season pass and you can buy a season pass that will give you some more rewards, every card in the game is unlockable without spending any money.
Additionally, you cannot pay money for specific cards, or craft specific cards with in-game currency and essentially turning marvel snap into a full fledge free to play game without needing to buy your way to the top of the rankings. Lastly i want to speak on the gambling of your matches which i see as a double or nothing feature. The Snap function is used to raise the stakes in a battle which can be used to bluff your opponent and which ever player wins gets double the cubes to get higher ranked.
