Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is finally available on PC and Consoles and today, we’re gonna give you a full review on the entire game. Now Modern Warfare 2 continues the reboot of the Modern Warfare franchise that began with Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2019. Because it is a sequel to this game, players can expect a lot of similarities to the gameplay as well as recurring characters and story lines.
GAME MODES
So starting off with what game modes you can expect, as of the release of Modern Warfare 2 we have Multiplayer, which includes all the standard multiplayer modes that Call Of Duty players love. Ground War makes a reappearance in this game too, which was made popular in Modern Warfare 2019.
Next up we have the campaign mode. At the end of Modern Warfare 2019, we saw Captain Price and members of his team successfully stop General Roman Barkov. However, very quickly we find out that Victor Zakhaev, the son of Imran Zakhaev from the original Modern Warfare game, is now after Barkovs throne following his death. This leads with Captain Price forming Task Force 141, the team from the original modern warfare 2 game. This leads directly into the new modern warfare 2 campaign mode. We won’t get into any major spoilers since many have yet to finish the story mode, but what you can expect is high action gameplay, beautiful, movie-like cinematics, well written and acted characters both new and familiar, and a captivating story that lives up to the amazing campaign mode from Modern Warfare 2019.
The last mode currently available is the cooperative mode. In this mode, you have access to 3 missions at launch. These missions include various tasks like infiltrating a town at night to acquire intel while going unnoticed, navigating a suburban area to disable SAM towers that are preventing ally reinforcements from flying in, and more. This mode aims to be the next evolution of the iconic “Spec Ops” mode that the modern warfare series is known for.
WARZONE 2.0/DMZ
There are two more modes that will eventually be available later on in November called Warzone 2 and “DMZ”. Warzone 2 is pretty simple, it’s a new battle royale game similar to the original Warzone game. DMZ however, is a brand new experience for the call of duty franchise. In this mode, we will be surviving against enemy players and AI while attempting to gather loot and exiting the match via one of the various extraction points on the map. This mode is taking inspiration from games such as Escape From Tarkov. We can expect these two modes to release on November 16th, 2022.
MULTIPLAYER
But going back to the current game, Multiplayer is surely where most players will be spending their time. In this version of multiplayer for call of duty, there will be 2 distinct mode categories. Those 2 are Core Map modes and Battle Map modes.
Core map modes are 6v6 and include game modes such as free for all, team death match, domination, search and destroy, etc. The Battle Map modes are much larger battles, coming in at 32vs32. This mode includes game modes like ground war and ground war invasion.
A new feature in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer is a third person mode. In this mode, players will play with a third person perspective instead of the traditional first person perspective that call of duty is known for. One thing to note is third person mode has its own playlist to ensure everyone is playing with the new perspective.
GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW
Now when it comes to the gameplay it’s very similar to what we’ve been accustomed to with modern warfare 2019 and Warzone. The gritty reload animations are back, the movement is similar but has also been tuned to be less spammy for things like slide cancels. The recoil on guns has been adjusted and does feel a bit more realistic, but also a bit more difficult to control. Tactical sprint does make a reappearance allowing players to speed across the map for a short period of time. But overall, it feels like an authentic call of duty experience set in the modern warfare universe.
One more thing to add about the multiplayer mode, is that skill based matchmaking makes a return to the game and the call of duty community is as divisive as ever about the “feature”. For those unaware, skill based matchmaking, or SBMM for short, is the mechanic that balances the players games based off their performance. This means that you get placed against players who are roughly around your skill level no matter what skill you may be at. This has been implemented in call of duty for years now and since it’s inclusion some of the community has argued against it saying that it leads to the loss of casual fun games since every game you will be playing against equally experienced players.
Now with modern warfare 2, SBMM seems to be as present as ever, so definitely expect to have some challenging matches once the system recognizes your skill level and places you in games appropriately.
But that is our full review of the launch of call of duty modern warfare 2. At launch we have a ton of content to play and enjoy, and in less then one months time we will have two more highly anticipated modes to choose from. This call of duty game is breaking the yearly release cycle that call of duty is known for so for the next two years, this will be our main call of duty game. Definitely expect a lot more content releases, optimization and bug fixes, and maybe even some new story mode content on 2023?
