So in this review we have something special: The Past Within, coop game but it doesnt require internet connection. You will have to play it together with someone and solve the puzzles together helping each other from your own side. It have something in common with Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, in a way that communication is a key here.
How do you do multiplayer co-op without actually connecting players to each other? At the start of the game you will select your role. It can be Past, where you will be locked in a room, or Future, where you will use computer to solve the puzzles. Then you select the puzzle variation: Butterfly or Bee. And then the game starts.I will try to keep it as spoiler free as possible, but be careful, we thread on a thin ice. From this point you start solving the puzzles, and usually the result of the puzzle will be required by another player to solve the puzzle on their end. This way the game makes it possible to play coop, without actually connecting to each other using those checkpoints as sync points for both players.
As you progress the game the room around you will change. You will interact with most objects in the room in the due time and in some cases several times. Its really interesting to hear how your teammate is describing their experience playing the game. It feels same and different at the same time. While playing The Past Within you will feel a lot of different emotions. Ranging from curiosity to some feeling of discomfort and fear, since some of the events in the games makes you feel strange. Emrace those feelings and enjoy the ride, it will make the game more enjoyable.
As for the story, in The Past Within you will uncover it piece by piece as you play the game. Storytelling is vague, but it only adds charm to this fantastic adventure. In the Chapter 2 you will have totally different experience than the one you got in the Chapter 1, but we will not spoil the fun for you.We hope that this The Past Within review helped you to learn something new about the game or make up your mind about buying it.
