China NPPA has issued a new wave of publishing license numbers for video games. Two games from Tencent and a game from NetEase were approved among a total of 70 games, a huge relief for the tech giants.
Notable titles include Metal Slug: Awakening from Tencent, A Chinese Odyssey: Homecoming from NetEase, Retirement Simulator from XD, and the indie martial hero phenomenon The Scroll of Taiwu.

Metal Slug: Awakening had its first promo ready back in May 2021 and has just been approved to release in the Chinese market
The new list is much more stacked than the last, featuring multiple anticipated titles from major developers and publishers. However, this is a two-month gap from the last wave of approval, and only domestic titles were on the list, no news games were approved for consoles, and the rumored import game publishing license numbers were still nowhere to be found.

In a very recent development, China has given the green light to 87 new video games, marking a big step in the recovery of its local gaming market. This move includes the approval of a popular title, “The Division Resurgence,” a mobile spin-off from Ubisoft‘s acclaimed Tom Clancy’s The Division series. The game, which enjoys backing from Tencent Holdings, is a third-person shooter and represents a key addition to Ubisoft’s gaming portfolio.

Metal Slug: Code J
China has told it's publishers to not release any new software until their new laws regarding IP come to pass. So we can say goodbye to the November release date. I'd say 2022 is more likely. It's already out in China. Although Timi studios is top rated internationally, they are still a Tencent in-house studio, as such whatever China says will also apply to global launches as it's based in China.

China Grants 86 Video Game Licenses
China has granted 86 new video game licenses, including Moonton's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, marking a potential challenge to Tencent's largest franchise, Honor of Kings. Moonton recently won a legal battle against Tencent over alleged intellectual property infringement. Mobile Legends' launch in China represents a symbol of the lessening grip Chinese regulators have had on gaming in the country. Tencent has been pushing many China-only mobile titles, particularly Honor of Kings, to the rest of the world, but Mobile Legends represents a direct challenge to their market dominance.
