Papetura (Reviewed)
Released: 7 May, 2021
Price: $10 USD
Papetura is a point & click adventure.
It's a very short story about sacrifice, in a beautiful handcrafted world made entirely out of paper. The story is about escaping imprisonment and warding off the dark monsters which are trying to burn the world down with you in it.
Pape with the help of their companion Tura must be helped through a visually stunning world while solving relatively simple puzzles to help reveal the story.
What piqued your interest in this game?
The creepy realism
I'll be honest what really drew me in was the reminiscent creepy yet beautiful visuals of a classic movie or cartoon done by Tim Burton in the form of a game.
There's just something so intriguing about games that are made with a lot of heart and passion. You can tell with this game even in its short depth, that the developers had a lot of fun creating each section with papier-mâché.
The game looks realistic/cartoony while also maintaining itself as a video game.
There really isn't much else to say due to the shortness of this game but know that it is a journey, more so than a true gaming experience, so go ahead and explore the handcrafted world by talented developers.
What did you like / not like about this game?
The developers hard work and effort
The fact that the developers put a lot of work in making it really pop out realistically. It's not often you see developers taking such bold and creative approach to video game design.
The fact that they spent so much time crafting beautiful environments with paper, glue and paper clips is quite frankly astonishing. It turned out wonderful.
The length of the game
It's too short of a game, leaving so much more to be desired by the player hoping to become invested in the lore of the world and characters.
Would you recommend this game?
Absolutely
I say this as someone who does prefer longer drawn out games, more so than short story visual experiences, there really isn't a lot of replay value so I would recommend this game when it's on sale rather than when it's at its retail price.
It has enough content and visuals in it to be something you will remember as a unique gaming experience.
This concludes my review of this game, while my opinions may be met with criticism, that's what makes gamers unique, you don't have to like the same things that others do, nor do you have to agree with them.
