Marvel Midnight suns is finally out and this by far was one of my launches and man was it sadly sour when actually playing the game but in todays review would be my first few bits of playing and i want to let players know what to somewhat expect for a $60 game. This review is not full on review of the game from start to finish but just my observations ive noticed during my time playing.
So what is Marvel Midnight Suns? Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the ultimate crossover event combining the rich story, character relationships, customization and progression of an RPG with the tactical strategy and combat mechanics of a revolutionary new card-based tactics game. Set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe, you will forge unbreakable bonds with legendary Marvel Super Heroes and dangerous supernatural warriors in the fight against the world’s greatest threat yet…the demonic forces of Lilith and the elder god Chthon. Come to find out this wasn't the first time the heroes had a legendary battle with Lilith. You play as the Hunter, the first fully-customizable original hero in the Marvel Universe. Personalize your appearance, choose your reactions to situations, and build friendships with Marvel legends spanning The Avengers, X-Men, Runaways, and more. Decide who to take with you on missions, which missions to embark on, and a host of other options to make this a unique experience. One thing you'll notice is in the early stages of the game you'll feel a bit left out of the story of what happened when Lilith first came and was beaten by us.
The story by far is some really good work being from the original comic books with a spin on it. From the creators of the critically-acclaimed tactical XCOM series comes an engaging and a deep customizable card-based battle system that from someone who is a fan of playing TCG sparked my interest heavily when coming into this game and the Mass Effect style of dialogue/relationship options and most of your time playing the game would be outside of battle by talking to heroes and leveling up the bond you have with them. Then second side of the gameplay is the actual combat. You can only have a team of 3 heroes at a time on any mission so choose wisely of who you want to build relationship with. The game has a lot of comedic moments and some moments are a bit cringe worthy but it does try its best to bring humor to the dark side of the marvel universe. The Abbey is your main headquarters where you can talk to the heroes. upgrade your gear and head out to missions and much more. The combat is really fun and definitely adding a twist to XCOM original way of combat in which the strategic card system and how you go about your deck will dictate how smooth or bad your fights will go. It is completely turn based meaning you can play out your hand first depending on how many points the card is before you end your turn similar to mana in most card games.
Lets talk about my biggest gripe about Midnight Suns. I have noticed decent amount of laggy issues during cutscenes and the 3rd person sequences when In the Abbey I do have a 3060 TI and I've lowered my settings and still laggy bits even some sentences being repeated. game is launched on a 2K launcher even if you bought and downloaded on steam and in which 2K is open during the time of you playing causing your CPU and Ram to be also chewed through just to play the game. Which will make my review very short since right now it is hard for me to continue playing the game due to the heavy amounts of lag i receive just to have simple convos with characters. I cant even pause the game, save the game or anything without having to wait a couple of seconds or a even minute just to do simple things. If the Devs can send a patch to fix these laggy problems then the game is good in my books. What's even worse is the fact they also offer a season pass for another $50, which is beyond crazy cause it makes this game feel like its worth $110 just to fully enjoy the game with the new hero and 23 skins and new enemies and more. most seasons passes are 10 dollars and they're free games at best or if you count destiny.
