Tower Rangers made me realize that although I’m absolutely terrible at action platform games, I can still have a buttload of fun, even if I’m always losing. I spent nearly two hours trying to beat this game and I haven’t even gotten close—and I can't stop until I win. Help me...please.
Tower Rangers is a pretty straightforward game that’s addictive, challenging, and mildly frustrating. It’s reminiscent of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy and Jump King (which are both probably the most anger-inducing video games I’ve ever played). In Tower Rangers, I needed to climb floors and reach the top using a character (that’s chosen from a roster of characters with no unique benefits) that could shoot and kill monsters, collect coins, avoid traps, and traverse walls. That’s all.
Getting to the top of that tower isn’t easy, though. I struggled immensely for the first hour trying to climb three floors, and I’m still trying to reach the top now. See, Tower Rangers challenged me because it tested my patience and reflexes. If I wasn’t composed and calm, I would die repeatedly to monsters or even accidentally impale myself. Even with extra lives, I’d find myself playing worse when I lost composure and started feeling frustrated. I could upgrade my character using coins to give myself more lives and a better fighting chance, but it couldn’t improve my performance.
Although I was struggling to beat Tower Rangers and felt like smashing my phone against the wall, it was still really addictive and fun. I was determined to beat the game, and this winning drive compelled me to play Tower Strangers longer than I’d anticipated. If you're impatient like me, tread lightly. However, if you enjoy playing challenging games or even want another action platformer to keep you busy, Tower Rangers will definitely impress. Let’s hope I can finally beat this game this week. I need to.
