I can’t believe I get to play another fantastic puzzle game again. After reviewing Another Shadow last week, I had high expectations for whatever adventure slash puzzle game I’d face the next year. I’m ecstatic to say that Boxville surpassed those expectations by miles and miles. It’s seriously that good!
As funny as it sounds, Boxville isn’t just about boxes. Well, sort of? Let me explain. It’s a beautifully-designed point-and-click adventure game with puzzles. The game’s set in a world where boxes make up buildings and cans live inside them. Yes, cans are people.
Anyways, it’s definitely a weird concept to wrap anyone’s head around, but the game eased me into this wild, carton-filled world by completely taking away the game’s narrative. Why? Well, this current version of Boxville is only a demo. The full version’s available on Steam, but not yet on mobile. Despite being a demo, Boxville provided me with two hours of entertainment before I completed the game.
In Boxville, I needed to explore my friendly neighborhood, piece together puzzles, and find tools that might help solve others. These puzzles challenged me tremendously, but in a good way that had me continuously drawn toward the game, requiring me to think out of the box. I became fixated on figuring them out, and sooner than I'd expected, I found myself enjoying Boxville only after playing for twenty minutes.
See, even though the game’s only currently a demo on mobile, it’s filled with enough action to keep me entertained for a long while—and if I needed a break to think, Boxville’s charming visuals helped calmed my mind. Altogether, Boxville provided such a pleasant experience to enjoy a well-made puzzling adventure game. I can't wait to try out the full game on Steam this year.
i agree with you
