Sleeping Flowers: Thread Curse is an interesting game, You have a bunch of girls who were given a Gachapon as a gift from the fairies in the woods, though it turns out it's not a gift, but in fact a curse. And one of the girls gets caught in the Gold Gachapon pill and magically put back into the game. And the other girls are bound by a magical thread that they plan to use as a weapon to take revenge on the fairies in the forest which in turn will give them coins that they can use on the magical Gachapon game to free their friend. Honestly that is quite a intro to a game, and I found it to be pretty cute.
Gameplay wise the game can seem a bit off putting if you don't take the time to read the instructions at the beginning of the game, but if you actually read what the game is telling you, it's very easy to pick up. I don't know why others are saying it's hard to understand when the game is literally telling you how to play it in very easy basic steps.
Basically when the thread is white, you avoid attacking any enemies, when the thread and your characts glow like a rainbow, unleash Hell onto the fairy folk and get those sweet sweet gacha coins. The left side of the game controls one of the girls, and the right side controls the other girl. You must co-ordinate between the two girls, by using both thumbs in order to get the best out of this game.
Or you can have a friend play the other girl by holding the other half of your phone. Which is also mentioned in the games introduction. on how to play the game. The game is really easy to pick up if you ask me, as long as you READ the guides at the beginning and the gameplay is super fun. Both girls also have their own HP to take care of, and you can pick up HP off the ground at various intervals in the game, but you have to pick the HP up with the girl who needs it, their HP bar is not shared. So keep that in mind. And the thread also has it's own HP bar which does not regenerate, so be aware of that too.
I really enjoyed this game and think it's really cute. Visually I love the pixel art design and the art work is fantastic. While the anime style art isn't by any means a top level artist, I can see the appeal and I do think the girl designs are very pretty. There are two artists in this game, one is called Honai and you can find them on twitter by searching @honaisu_ the other is TonoVZart and you can find them on twitter by searching @Tonovz_art I highly recommend giving them both a follow and some support if you enjoy the art of the game.
Overall I think this game has a lot of heart, the visual novel style story is cute, however there are a lot of spelling errors and phrases that seem badly translated, but it's still understandable. I also want to mention the in game music, I really liked the main menu music that was playing. It was very relaxing and soothing. Very good job with that.
The game does need a bit of polishing overall if you ask me, but the gameplay seemed perfectly fine to me, and I really enjoyed it. Pulling for the gachapon requires the in game currency only, which can unlock new pixel art costumes for your girls. I didn't see any in game cash shop either which was nice.
Honestly I was expecting a pretty bad game, based on what others were saying in the reviews I saw. But I don't think the game is hard to pick up or figure out because if you read the guide at the beginning of the game, it's very straight forward on how to play. I think this game is so much fun. And I highly recommend you pick it up and play it, by yourself or with a friend.
