Forspoken is a game that starts off amazing then quickly falls off. At the beginning we learn about the main character Frey's back story. This part is both emotional and intriguing. Gameplay is slim at the start and only has you moving Frey throughout New York. The graphics and atmosphere and environment is so well done. You really feel like you are in New York during the holidays and wintertime. The game is heavily story driven but this is also its greatest problem. The story is amazing at the beginning but once the "character" cuff is brought into the game everything goes downhill from there.
Cuff is literally a cuff that is found by Frey one cold December night. The cuff attaches itself to her and transports her to a different world. The problem is the cuff is given a voice and personality. The cuff is supposed to be telling Frey about this new world and kind of assisting as a tutorial voice. Most of the dialogue after cuff is introduced is just Frey and cuff arguing and making dumb comments towards each other. It completely kills the story and makes Frey's dialogue fall off. I would have rather them not given cuff a voice and just let Frey discover everything on her own and talk to herself.
Aside from cuff, the other problem I had was the constant switch between gameplay and cut scene. It happens way too often and feels more like you're just watching a video instead of playing a game. Once you do get to battle monsters and roam the world the game is extremely fun. The different spells and abilities you can use are unique and visually pretty. The parkour abilities in this game make the movement fast and fluid. The monsters you encounter are fierce and highly detailed. It's honestly a great game but the constant interruption of gameplay with a cut scene kills the flow. If the game features more gameplay early on and removed cuffs dialogue it would be an amazing game.
The graphics are gorgeous on pc. I had the graphics maxed out and was getting between 60-70 fps. You will need a pretty powerful pc to achieve these numbers. I have a i9 12900 KF CPU with a 3080ti and 32GB of DDR5 RAM

Life ain’t always easy for a Square Enix fan lately, what with the legendary publisher selling off its Western studios and vowing to continue to focus on NFTs. Do not despair, though: I’m here bearing the good news that Forspoken is a light in the darkness, a bright new hope for Square’s future. As a completely new IP from a group of developers who previously brought us Final Fantasy XV, Forspoken isn’t a perfect game, but it successfully shows off the boundless potential for creativity that this studio has while embracing a fresh approach to game design—fresh for Square, at least—and introducing gamers to a fascinating new world.

MY OVERALL SCORE 7/10
Game starts off amazing then quickly falls off once the "character" cuff is introduced into the game. The constant switch from gameplay to cut scene hurts the experience at the beginning. You go from 30-45 seconds of gameplay to then a cut scene. This continues back and fourth for the first 2-3 hours.
Frey soon learns this beautiful land once flourished under the reign of benevolent matriarchs, called Tantas, until a devastating blight relentlessly corrupted everything it touched. The Break transformed animals into beasts, men into monsters, and rich landscapes into four dangerous realms. At the center of their shattered domains, the Tantas now rule as maddened and evil sorceresses.

Forspoken follows the journey of Frey, a young New Yorker transported to the beautiful and cruel land of Athia. In search of a way home, Frey must use her newfound magical abilities to traverse sprawling landscapes and battle monstrous creatures.
I have no problems with the MC or the dialogue. The combat and the world seem extremely fun. I do have two major issues with the game on PC. The first is the bad optimization. That should get worked out in patches soon. The other issue is the game needs more neutral world npc's. Everything outside the city wants to fight. And that is actually fine but you feel lonely and uninspired that way. Maybe in the future, they can patch the open world with more life.
