PLAY IT OR SKIP IT?
You need to play Hi-Fi Rush. It’s too great of a game to miss. In this action/rhythm game hybrid, the world syncs to the music, and the music sounds freakin’ amazing.
TIME PLAYED
I played Hi-Fi Rush for five hours. Each stage took me around forty minutes to an hour to complete depending on how many times I went off the route to explore hidden areas for scrap and resources.
WHAT’S AWESOME
• Combat. Hi-Fi Rush’s fast-paced, dynamic combat offers so many ways to play the game. I swapped between utilizing heavy-hitting combos and ranged attacks throughout the course of battles. Add in upgrades and skills I could learn along the way, and I constantly had access to an arsenal of moves that toppled any robot in my path.
• Enemies. Hi-Fi Rush introduces so many unique-looking enemies with different attack patterns. I loved that each enemy had a distinct design so that I didn’t have trouble differentiating one robot from another.
• Music. In Hi-Fi Rush, music is everywhere. It bounces off the walls and syncs with everything inside this futuristic world. Riding the beat and learning its flow takes center stage in combat, progression, and even simple tasks like moving across platforms. The electrifying music has been a huge part of Hi-Fi Rush’s appeal for me.
• Narrative. I wasn’t expecting Hi-Fi Rush’s storyline to be so well-made and amusing. The personality-packed characters banter back and forth in a way that kept me laughing nearly as much as I was grooving to the music.
• Visuals. Hi-Fi Rush uses bright, vibrant colors that are great to look at.
• Guidance. I have to commend Hi-Fi Rush’s thorough tutorials and periodic tips that helped guide me along this journey. These helped me to learn and fully understand all the different mechanics as I played.
• Customization. I loved that I could explore different areas for resources to customize my character. Exploring alone is enough for me to be happy, but the fact I could collect stuff and improve my character’s skills, combos, and health felt fulfilling.
WHAT SUCKS
• Nothing. While writing this, I spent twenty minutes trying to figure out something that I remotely disliked, even a little, about Hi-Fi Rush. I couldn’t think of one. Even though I only spent five hours on this beautiful rhythm game, I enjoyed every single bit of it. Everything.
