Dungreed is a fantastic mix of a side-scroller, platformer, roguelike, rpg and action game. But its hard to say how game is on the first glance. In this article we will talk about both good and bad sides of Dungreed so you can decide if this is the right game for you.
PROS
1. Smooth gameplay. I cant stress this enough how good controls are in this game! Most side scrollers on the mobile devices seem sloppy, uncomfortable and require some practice to get used to. Not Dungreed. Once you start the game and go through short tutorial you feel comfortable with the controls. And it only gets better over time.
2. Progression. Mix of different genres made this very fun. You can develop your character by upgrading the stats and unlocking skills, rebuild village, rescue villagers and so on. Deeper you go into the dungeon - more new stuff you will unlock.
3. Roguelike. Since each time you die you start the run over randomly generated dungeon structure is making it fun to go through the same floors again. Add random encounters and weapon drops and you will have bunch of stuff to do while you are going to the spot where you died.
CONS
1. Boss mechanics can be hard to get. A lot of different movesets thats hard to avoid when you just start playing. There are 2 ways how to mitigate it: Get Good or Gear Up. Both works. Over time it wont be much of an issue since you will master the controls and micromovements.
2. Randomness. Its mostly a good thing, but you might get a bad luck streak with encounters and drops on your run, which will lead to early death. And if you spend gold to get equipment and buffs for this run it might leave you salty.
Dungreed Verdict. Is it Good?
Dungreed is a really good game and a fun one. I strongly advise to try it if you are into side-scroller / platformer genre. I am not, but I liked it a lot. Comfortable easy to get controls, fun progression and roguelike elements make it a great experience.
