Sengoku 2 is a side-scrolling action title that captures the magic of arcade games and brings it to mobiles for everyone to enjoy. It’s straightforward, nostalgic, and really fun to play, especially if you love arcade games like me. After playing for an hour, I’m still trying to battle my way through and finish the game.
In Sengoku 2’s normal mode, I needed to attack and defeat enemies to score points and progress through the game. The game’s really that simple and there’s no real punishment for dying. If I died repeatedly and lost all my lives, I could respawn and continue playing. Although I did struggle to stay alive, I never felt worried about getting hit. I played fearlessly and enjoyed smashing through every monster and samurai that came down my path. With each stage introducing new enemies, some harder to kill than others, I had a blast playing Sengoku 2 for its simple, but enjoyable gameplay.
If I wanted to challenge myself, I could play the game’s Caravan or Hi Score mode which came with different risks and conditions. In the Caravan mode, I couldn’t respawn and I had five minutes to earn as many points as possible. For the Hi Score mode, I still couldn’t respawn, but there was no time limit, I just needed to stay alive. Although I have pretty slow reflexes, I liked trying to beat my high scores throughout these modes and found it really satisfying when I did.
I have to admit though, I don’t think I’d play Sengoku 2 for more than a few hours. It’s visually stunning and nostalgic, but gameplay can sometimes feel a little repetitive. I mean, all there is to Sengoku 2 is staying alive and beating the hell out of monsters and enemies to earn points. It’s definitely fun that’s for sure, but I’m not sure how long that would last. That said, if you have the time and would like to play a decent arcade game, Sengoku 2 is well worth a try.
