Final Defense: The Pros and Cons for TD Diehards

Final Defense makes a very good impression the moment you launch it. But there are hidden drawbacks, that might break your gaming experience.

PROS

1. A lot of tower variations

Each upgrade you do to any of your towers will add special properties to it. And next upgrade will change how it works as well. Mixing and matching different towers is a key to victory.

2. Nice graphics

Final Defense cartoonish graphics suits it very well. Everything from little units and enemies to the tower design and effects looks good.

3. Multiple upgrade options

In Final Defense you can upgrade your towers between stages. You can use stars you get for completing the level for tower upgrades. Each tower have its own skill tree that can be reset any time for free. This allows you to try different strategies without worrying about stuck skill points.

CONS

1. Its hard

Final Defense is pretty hard, so sometimes you will have to replay the stages, maybe several times to adjust your strategy to the enemy waves. Most levels will have several lanes enemies can use, so there is no way to know which units will go where and where to expect boss from.

2. Gameplay options are limited

You dont really have a lot of variety in what you can do in Final Defense. If you do the wrong strategy you will most likely lose. You cant even move assembly point for melee troops, so they will hold an enemy in the right place.

3. Some towers are bad designed

Yes, I am looking at you, catapult tower from stage 3. Moreover as you upgrade the tower to the next tier it can completely change its behavior and there is no tooltip showing what will happen on upgrade unless you go for it.

4. Final Crystal

In the end of the maze in Final Defense is not a portal as in most games. Its a crystal, that have hp. And once you leak an enemy they will just start attacking it. Usually its just one tower that have your crystal in range, so you will be stuck with some enemy(s) next to your crystal and low dps tower and there is nothing you can do about it. Even the weakest enemy link might end your run.

Verdict. Is Final Defense Good?

Its ok.

Final Defense isnt the best Tower Defense game out there, but its not the worst as well. It have its own strong sides and challenging difficulty might attract some players. Having a crystal instead of portal with lives is a debatable decision too.
