In the dark fantasy setting of Path of Exile, the government of the island nation of Oriath banishes its citizens to the continent of Wraeclast, which was formerly home to numerous ancient deities. Path of Exile is exactly what Diablo could have and should have been.
There is always something for you to enjoy in the game, despite the fact that many new players may find it to be extremely confusing or overwhelming due to the sheer number of gameplay elements like the Passive Tree or the Atlas Tree and the hundreds of thousands of different ways to build and shape your character.
Did I mention that the game is entirely FREE to play and only contains small microtransactions to improve your quality of life in game?
You won't find any other ARPG game that offers so much content for free.

In Diablo 2, you get to make intriguing decisions for your character's development and add to those decisions with gear.
Compared to Diablo 3, the sole difference between characters of the same class is their equipment. The world of Diablo 2 is gloomy and terrifying, while Diablo III is very forgettable and offers nothing of substance outside of a straight forward loot and kill gameplay.
While the actual gameplay may feel dated to someone who has never played the original, it's very much worth the effort to try. The late game builds can be pretty insane.
The story will well written, with voice actors to match. Once again in comparison to any of the other Diablo entries past this point, this still remains quintessentially the best entry in the series that should be played if you're in the mood for a quality ARPG.

If you're willing to try something unique, and a bit complicated at times. Grim Dawn may be a game that you may enjoy if you're tired of your typical ARPGs. Especially Path of Exiles.
The variety of options you have when playing Grim Dawn is its strongest selling point. There are 72 possible mastery (class) combinations, with a massive amount of replay-ability, a dark story, great atmospheric music, loot, crafting and much more.

If you're looking for an ARPG to satisfy your gaming appetite, Torchlight II is a serviceable option even while not being particularly groundbreaking when it was released in 2012.
These days, ARPG enthusiasts might find it extremely difficult to settle down with a game. Since Diablo 3 came out 11 years ago, Diablo 4 is shaping up to be a major let down and the fact that, Path of Exile while massive can get a little exhausting once you've invested 1000s of hours into it.
I personally would keep to the others on this list, but it still does offer some gameplay for someone looking for something new.
