My Memory of Us, a game that was originally on PC, and available on steam to buy, is also available on mobile devices as a free game. And while I never did try the PC version. I did give the mobile version a try the other day, and I have to say.
This is a pretty impressive game. Gameplay wise you take control of two children, one boy and one girl, each of them have specific skills that they can use, for example the boy can sneak and crouch, while the girl can sprint and use the slingshot.
But to use them both efficiently you will need to utilize team work and use both of their skills in order to advance in the game. The game is also very heavily story driven. With a narration done by none other than the amazing Sir Patrick Stewart. A voice you can't easily forget.
It was very nice to hear him narrate this game. I was very pleasantly surprised when I recognized his voice instantly. Objectives are usually given as hints in speech bubbles, so you have to pay attention to what the speech bubbles are depicting.
Because if you miss it, there doesn't seem to be any way of repeating it. Unless I missed where the hint option could be. I tried pausing the game to find a hint option but there was none. Now, while the game is amazing. And I loved the co-op feel between the two children.
What I didn't like, was the frequent ads that would pop up in the middle of your gameplay. This game has the most obnoxious forced ads. And it's very disappointing and breaks the immersion all the time. Personally I would have preferred this game to have been a straight premium purchase over being a free game riddled with forced ads that you have to watch.
You can't skip them either. You must watch them until the end before getting back into the game. You can pay to have the ads removed, but for me personally I do think a premium purchase of the same price would have been better.
This game deserves a full experience with no ads ruining it. But that's just my opinion. You may be able to handle all the ads a lot more than I can. Visually this game is phenomenal. The 2D art is stunning and I just wanted to soak in all the visual aesthetics while playing. This truly is a gorgeous art style.
Overall I'd say that My Memory of Us is a fantastic mobile port that's only disappointment is the amount of ads the game forces you to watch in the free version. I highly recommend you pay for the removal of the ads, so that you can play an uninterrupted immersive experience. I definitely recommend this wonderful game, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
