Peglin - A Pachinko Roguelike - A Quick Game Review

Peglin is a RPG puzzle pinball style adventure mobile game with very unique gameplay style compared to RPG games that I have played so far! Honestly, I was not much impressed by the pixel-type graphics that it presented at first but the gameplay got me hooked pretty quick to this game. The gameplay is quite a hybrid of pinball and turn based RPG game. At first the gameplay felt a bit weird but pretty soon, it became quite interesting and fun to play.

Looking into the gameplay, first you start with a pyramid type map and then slowly progress to the bottom of map depending upon how you end your current stage. The map felt quite simple and basic for me and it was quite nostalgic to goblin village map of clash of clans.

Getting into a combat scene, you will have a stack of attacking balls right under your character. The balls do come in different varieties. Some are just rocks and some are like knives which can inflict very high damage if they crit. To my surprise, now you can modify the strength and attributes of those balls based on how you lucky you get with the pinball mini-game. You can change the initial trajectory of your pinball and then shoot the pinball to hit as much as bubbles as possible before the ball falls into the pit. There are various types of unique bubbles which can provide different attribute or strength to your next attack ball. Some improve the attack damage, Some improves the crit chance rate and some can actually provide extra bomb damage that can deal AOE damage to all the enemies in the screen. These are the reasons why I got hooked to the pinball mini-game while have awesome RPG gameplay progression.

I think the reward system is pretty fun in this game. You can spend the coins that you have earned as loot in the game to improve your attack stones or get HP healed up. Or, you can get new orbs in your arsenal as well. The gameplay just becomes more and more interesting.

As you progress through the game, the enemies become harder and greater in number. All you have is the pinball strategy to make the best out of your ammunition. You can make the best use of your trash can to come up with best possible attack strategy against your enemy. As a quality of life feature, you can increase the gameplay speed by 1.5x times.

Overall, this game is really awesome in my opinion and I really do recommend you guys to try this game out! Its just too good to miss out. I would have enjoyed this game a bit more if there was a good story to this game. The attack animations are just too simple. But the gameplay is just too much fun. This game could have used better sound effects for better gameplay experience. None the less, this game is worth trying out! Cheers!
