At the beggining I was not impressed because the story was kind of seen so many times. But then the gameplay happened... It's a turn based rpg. But it's so balanced it's great! And by that I mean it's deep enough for rpg fans but it's also simple enough for newcomers. You command a squad of 4 and each one has a basic attack a skill and a ultimate plus you have a chance to do a EX version of either the skill or últi. Finally there's a chain skill that uses all 4 of your characters. There is a time line like the one introduced by child of light to clearly know the turns. If you hold on the skills you can read what they do plus if they have an rpg term a color coded box will let you know what that is, this applies to enemies too. That way you can make informed decisions and plan a strategy.
Going back to the story after the tutorial it turns into a darker tone very similar to the rising of the shield hero anime. It also seems to be free to play friendly because there's ways to get the gems and they offer a free draw every day.
There's also a one time only 10 draws unlimited reroll so you can get what you want (I suggest doing the reroll until you get at least 1 3 star and 2 2 stars)
Aside from the main story there are also dungeons, character stories, gear, guilds, etc.
And finally there's also an option to auto combat wich I recommend for grinding but you can disable it at any time for manual control (you will need that for tougher enemies and bosses)
Ps. I have tried the new honkai star rail and this game has way better gameplay, I definitely recommend OUTERPLANE if you like rpgs.
