Somnolent: Action RPG Fantasy is a newly released game that, before I begin I should mention it is region locked to the US, France, UK, Canada, Netherlands, Russia, Saudi Arabia. and can only be downloaded through the Google Play store. So before you even think of playing this game you need to be either from those regions or use a VPN and download the game using a google account that is from those regions.
After that you can play the game while running the VPN. Which is a large amount of hoops to go through in order to get this game running if you're not from the regions listed. Gameplay wise this game was average at best, the combat as okay, the action combat was thankfully not auto, and there was no auto pathing either.
The only thing that annoyed me with the combat was the dodging, especially when I was fighting a boss. When you try to dodge out of the telegraphs, a lot of the time I would dodge back into the boss. Even though I was sure I was trying to dodge away from it.
This happened many times during the boss encounter and caused me to die on numerous occasions. The animations when fighting or just moving around the game and jumping felt stiff and looked funny too. Especially when climbing a wall. The way your arms are outstretched while climbing the wall just looks really odd to me.
The game likes to take a long time to load too, Which considering I'm playing it on my Redmagic 7s Pro, it's odd to have such long load times, and sometimes I would just get stuck on the loading screens altogether. This happened to me while I was trying to do the first dungeon quest and I had to close the game and load it again, and then the funny part was that when I re-entered the game, the quest had automatically completed for me, and was telling me to progress.
I decided to try the dungeon again and this time I was able to zone in. The dungeon was okay, short and sweet I suppose. Lots of chests inside and it even had a little bit of platforming too which was an interesting addition. The game world seems big though, while looking at the world map, it gave off that impression.
Whether it truly feels that way in game however, I can't say for 100% that it feels very big. One thing I did like a lot was that when you equipped new armor, it would change its visual look on your character.
Those small details mean a lot to me, I like seeing signs of gear progression on my character, so I'm glad that's been thought of in this game. The graphics of the game are average, and at times can look below average, even after turning the graphics to the max settings, which you can't do too much tweaking in the settings though.
You can run the game in 60fps though, so that's also a plus I suppose. Overall I'd say that Somnolent: Action RPG Fantasy is a game that needs more work, it's not quite there yet. I even noticed some text that wasn't even in English when I was in the upgrade menu.
If you're serious about trying the game out, I would recommend it if you're from the regions the game is allowed in, but if you're not. And you have to jump through all the hoops I had to, to get to play it, it's not worth it at all. Wait until the game is improved more, and then consider coming back to it later.
