Krafton resumes 'PUBG Mobile India' service
Resumption of service after about 10 months of blocking the local app market
Plans to take the lead in strengthening partnership and technological cooperation between Korea and India
Krafton Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Chang-han)'s Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) will resume its service this month.
BGMI was temporarily blocked from the local app market in India in July of last year. Krafton has been communicating with the relevant authorities to resume operation of BGMI, and finally approved the unblocking on the 18th local time after about 10 months. BGMI will be re-registered in the local app market in India in the near future and will operate normally.
Krafton launched BGMI for users in India in July 2021. Since then, the cumulative number of users has exceeded 100 million in just over a year since its launch, and it has become a national game in India, ranking first in local app sales. BGMI is the first esports event in India's history to be broadcast live on TV, and is considered to have built India's esports ecosystem, recording 24 million concurrent viewers and 200 million total viewers.
Krafton aims to restore key indicators such as the number of users and sales performance to the previous year's level by resuming various business activities of BGMI and local esports competitions with this service normalization as a starting point. In particular, as this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and India, KRAFTON plans to do its best to lead the way in strengthening partnership and technological cooperation between the two countries through BGMI.
