Phantom Blade Executioners is a side scrolling action game that I had the pleasure of trying out the beta for. The gameplay has you picking one one of four characters and playing as them while you go on a journey with a girl named Tang Bing who is convinced her ex lover has become some all powerful evil being.
You will travel around the country fighting many monsters and pursuing him. You access the many different menu options by going up to the different NPC's at your various stops. You can go up to the caravan to change your skills, equip armor and to go on quests for example.
There is even an NPC that will sell you random gear, so you have to try your luck with your in game currency and buy in bulk to hopefully get a decent armor piece.
The combat is fast and pretty fun, with 3 combat skills for you to use. The main attack skill, and 2 special skills that you can add other skills onto in order to do combo chains to unleash maximum damage or to damage and follow up with a healing skill.
The choice is up to you on how you want your combo skills to work. There is also an Ultimate skill that has some pretty flash animations when cast.
Something that makes this game interesting is the ability to attach phantoms to your skills. Phantoms are earned from the Gacha system so you will have to embrace the RNG Gods when it comes to hopefully getting the best Phantoms to apply to your skills.
The audio in the game is pretty decent, the sounds are clear and there is a moderate amount of voice acting. Mainly in the cut scenes, but there is some in game encounters where there is voice acting. Side content though is not voice acted, which isn't too surprising.
The voice acting is also not bad either, I've definitely heard a lot worse, so major props for having some decent actors voice your characters. Visually the game is stunning however.
I absolutely love the artistic style of this game. The art work is so highly detailed and I love all the character designs. I must commend the art team for such amazing designs.
They really look amazing. Overall I'd say that Phantom Blade Executioners is coming along nicely. This game has fast and fun combat and a gorgeous art style to go with it.
The characters are interesting and the combo system can feel somewhat overwhelming at times, but I think its still very interesting and you probably could come up with some interesting combos as you unlock new skills. Keep your eyes out for the release of this game. It's definitely one you should try out.
