Score: 8/10 Did I enjoy it? Yes, when I achieved a respectable score on the leaderboard and began to focus more on the challenge mode I enjoyed it a lot more.
Would I come back to it? Yes but only intermittently. I would probably complete all of the missions and them be done with the game.
Personal Playtime: 3 hours
Poosh XL appears similar to games like Geometry Wars but offers a distinct gameplay experience. Your objective is to push forward while avoiding obstacles and aiming for a high position on the leaderboard.
The mechanics are straightforward: you control an arrow indicating your direction and distance traveled. Navigating obstacles and collecting powerups, such as shields or increased weight, adds variety. The game displays the distances achieved by other players, which can be motivating.
In addition to the arcade mode, Poosh XL features a challenging mode with carefully crafted levels. This mode provides a more enjoyable experience, as the arcade mode can sometimes feel unfair. Knowing what to expect in the challenge mode makes failure easier to accept.
The downsides become apparent early on. The game lacks incentives to keep playing in the arcade mode, with unlockables tied to the challenge mode instead. Frustration arises when you fail due to insufficient momentum or character placement. The game may lose appeal over time.
While Poosh XL has an intriguing design and gameplay, its staying power is limited. It may attract fans of the genre and those seeking a challenge, particularly in the challenge mode. Priced at $4.99, it is not a must-buy, but it could be worth considering for its unique challenge mode.. Minor improvements, such as diverse obstacles, character recharge rate adjustments, and unlockables tied to success, would enhance the arcade mode's enjoyment.
