Takt Op. Symphony is a waifu gacha game that was released June 2023 and I had the pleasure of trying this game out and it's just... I was definitely impressed with what I experienced. The setting of the games story is set in the far future where music cannot be played anymore due to it bring forth monsters called D2's or Despair Dolls.
You play as a Conductor. Someone who can enhance the power of Musicarts. Girls who have been infused with music to fight. Each girls name is based off a song that is infused into them. The musicart Destiny wakes you up after you have been in stasis for 20 years due to a serious injury and needs your help to fight off the Despair Dolls that have infiltrated the base.
The story for me so far has been very interesting and I really enjoyed what I saw. It helps that all the main story content is also voice acted in Japanese too. I also liked how you can interact in the conversations and have the option to choose a reply. I found the story so intriguing that I actually started to hope that they would make an anime about this game, little did I know that this game is actually based on the anime, since the anime came out in 2021.
Whether this is a direct sequel to that anime, or a remake of the anime series into a game, I cannot say since I have not watched the anime. But I will definitely watch it now that I know about it. The gameplay is fantastic too. The user interface is clean and minimal, everything feels elegant and melodic, And I never felt lost in how to navigate the menus.
I especially liked how you can move around the base of operations, and go to find different areas for new things to do in the game. So you're not just stuck on a menu screen and tapping on buttons to take you where you need to go. In this game it's more immersive with how you play it. The combat is surprisingly engaging, I had yet to find any auto button when I played, but I'm still hesitant to assume there is none since most of these games do have it.
But as of yet I have not come across it. The game does have an increased speed option for combat though. When you pick your girls for your teams before engaging in combat, the game will actually recommend where you place them for optimal performance. Each girl has two special skills and a basic attack. These special attacks are also color coded and the more you use them, the more you fill up the color coded tuning bar at the top of your screen.
Once one of them is full you can use a special attack. So far, I am really enjoying the combat system in this game, it's not overly complicated and doesn't have elemental attacks, however there are physical and magic attacks. You just have to focus on attacking, buffing, debuffing and filling that tuning meter to unleash their ultimate skills. I have to talk about the audio in this game. It's absolutely stunning. It's full of beautiful scores and the appropriate musical score will even play when you look at a girls profile who is named after it.
The amount of detail that has gone into the music of this game is fantastic. I cannot get over how beautiful the music and audio is in this game. I also love how there's a theme song at the beginning of the game too. I just think the music is great and I hope you try to appreciate it when you play too. Visually the game is jaw droppingly gorgeous. I cannot get over how stunning this game looks. From all the fantastic live 2D art work that had me wondering if it was actually 3D. I'm still not 100% sure it's not 3D.
The character models are very animated and move a fair amount when in dialogues, and the art work is crisp and clean and looks very high quality. The character models are highly detailed too, and while it is bordering into the chibi territory, I think I can handle it enough. As most of you may know by now, i'm not a fan of chibi in game models, but this one is just manageable.
Thankfully the art work and live 2D models aren't like that. Even the combat visuals are so good. I can't get over how beautiful this game is. Overall I'd say that Takt Op. Symphony is a game I will be playing as much as I can of. It's fun, engaging, and visually stunning. The gameplay is so good and the audio needs to be heard as well. I cannot get over how good this game is and I hope you will also give it a try.
With its minimalist user interface and gorgeous character designs and intriguing story and engaging combat system, I can't find much to fault on it. If I had to complain about something though, I guess the writing is a bit too small for the combat skills when in combat. I guess that's a sacrifice to make when you are going for such a clean interface, but it did feel a little hard to read, especially on a phone. Other than that. I can't complain about this game. It's just amazing. I hope you give it a go.
