Review and Free-to-Play guide
Harry Potter: Magic awakened draws inspiration from games like clash royale but with a twist: instead of defending a tower, you are defending yourself.  Because of this, a whole new level of complexity emerges.  Knowing when to run forward with your team, when to fall back, when to dodge spells, and more makes this game quite interesting.  The spells, summons and echoes make a variety of strategies available, many of which are viable in competitive matches.  There is no current "meta", although some card and souls are more popular than others.  Some cards are a little overpowered, but with a rotating card ban system voted by the players at high ranks, so you can usually plan around it.
Is it pay to win?
Kind of.  All classes, story missions, and challenge stages can be cleared without paying.  But your card levels and, subsequently your player level, which affects your health and base damage, can be upgraded using money.  This isn't so much a problem in ranked at first, as there's a level cap at lower levels.  But at higher levels you'll often encounter higher level players, some of whom bought the best cards and upgraded a ton in order to have high health.  Not impossible to beat, but still very frustrating to lose to.
It's important to note that some of this may change.  Merely a week ago the situation was worse: you could buy a wand that literally gives your team an extra life in ranked.  The developers have since rectified the issue by giving you a wand that does the same thing once reaching a certain rank.

I recommend finding a couple of decks you like and working on upgrading the cards in them whenever possible.  Leave the other cards alone in order to save your gold. Don't be afraid to experiment though, you can always switch decks for a new idea.  Save your gems for the red keys, and buy your favorite cards when they have a banner.  Save gold and buy a legendary card  in the shop that you use, it refreshes every 12 days.
For rank, I recommend playing Duos by teaming with someone else.  By coordinating strategies, your odds of winning to up, and your lower card and player level doesn't matter as much.   For example, I currently run a healing Neville build and my friend runs a fully offensive Bellatrix build.
What do you think of the game? Do you love it, or feel like its a cash grab on the HP franchise? Comment below telling me your favorite deck build!

Clash Royale meets Hogwarts Legacy in a magical new game - Harry Potter: Magic Awakened Quick Review
PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Play it. Harry Potter: Magic Awakened explores the Harry Potter universe in a new and refreshing light. It merges roguelike deckbuilding with some familiar RPG elements like questing and exploration, while also offering an entirely new and charming storyline filled with easter eggs and memorable characters. TIME PLAYED I played Harry Potter: Magic Awakened for four hours. I managed to get pretty far in the storyline, completing twenty-some quests and unlocking more than thirty cards. I’ve also passed bronze rank in the game’s solo dueling feature and reached the top three hundred on the Australian server leaderboard.
